7 Tips to Make Moving Less Stressful ...

Finding plenty of tips to make moving less stressful is definitely a must! The process of moving can take a big toll on you both mentally and physically, so it's important to try and stay relaxed. You want your move to be a happy and welcomed change, not a dreaded obligation! So start to de-stress right now, by taking a minute to sit down, relax, and read this list of 7 tips to make moving less stressful!

1 Start Packing ASAP

Of all the tips to make moving less stressful, I can't 'stress' this one enough. As soon as you know you will be moving, start packing! If you start packing little by little, it will leave you enough time to sort through your belongings and get rid of some things you no longer need. This way, when you move into your new place, you will have less clutter and an easier time unpacking. Starting to pack early on also obviously helps you avoid frantic last minute packing!

Frequently asked questions

2 Pack an over-Night Bag

Avoid getting stressed out on your last night at your old place and your first night at your new place by packing an over-night bag. This should contain everything you would normally pack on an overnight trip somewhere, such as your everyday bathroom necessities, PJs, a change of clothes, and extra underwear! This way, you aren't stressing over the fact that you can't find the things you need right when you need them. Also make sure to keep your electronics and their chargers in this bag so you don't find yourself getting upset over the fact that you can't find your phone charger during the move and your phone is going to die.

3 Don't Buy Boxes

Moving usually puts a strain on your finances by itself so don’t spend even more money on moving supplies! Try going to your local convenience stores as well as hardware stores to see if they have any extra boxes or moving supplies. If you work in an office you can also check to see where empty boxes are deposited to see if you are allowed to take them home. I didn't spend a penny on boxes for my last two moves because I got tons of empty boxes from my job! Also, try hitting up your local dollar store for tape, labeling markers, and any other packing supplies you may need for half the cost!

4 Hire Professional Movers

If you really want to lower the stress of your move, then spend the extra cash to hire some movers. Make sure to do your research and get quotes from several different companies in order to get the lowest price available. If you don't have the money for professional movers, see if you can get some of your family and friends to help. The more people helping you with the move, the less stressful it will be!

5 Plan a Spa Day

Use moving as an excuse to plan a day at the spa, salon, or any other place that makes you feel good! Try to plan one day during your final week of packing and then one day during your first week of unpacking. It's a great way to break up the stress of the move at the moments when you need it the most!

6 Notify Everyone of Your Move

Make a list of utilities and people at both locations that need to be notified of your moving date. Then, make sure to check off each as you contact them. Make sure to remember to change your magazine subscriptions, your billing address, and any retail stores that you actually enjoy getting coupons from. Also, don't forget to file your change of address with the post office at least a week before you move!

7 Start Room Planning

As soon as I know I'm going to move, I start room planning! If you don't already know what kind of place you will be moving to, then start with things such as color schemes or themes! Create a board on Pinterest or a collage from magazine cut outs. The best part about moving is getting a fresh start, so why not design your rooms in a new way? I always get myself excited for moving by planning what I want to buy for my new place, what colors I want, and what theme I'll have!

Throughout your moving chaos, just remember how happy you will be once you are settled into your new place! Moving is a great excuse to start fresh, so make sure to take full advantage of it by getting rid of the old to make way for the new! What other tips do you have for others to help make moving less stressful?
