I’ve always been the girl who trips over her own feet, falls into a puddle of water, and spills coffee on her shirt, so I’ve definitely come to terms with how to stop being embarrassed about yourself. When you’re constantly clumsy like me, it teaches you to toughen up about your mishaps. If I were to be embarrassed, I’m pretty sure it would happen at least twice daily! But, these tips that I acquired, have helped me take embarrassment in stride and get over it! Here are some of the ways I suggest on how to stop being embarrassed about yourself!

1 Be You, Uninhibited

I know that sounds like a really hard thing to do, but it’s certainly worthy of consideration. Accept that things aren’t like they are in the movies and that mistakes will occur. Try to think of them as a learning experience! Instead of getting sad or upset about it, think of it as a unique experience that you can grow and learn from and even laugh about later. Just being comfortable with who you are and what you can offer to the world through your trials and tribulations can be a pretty good start on how to stop being embarrassed about yourself!

That is not a typo! Mistakes can actually be a good thing, like I had mentioned earlier. How will you ever grow as a person if you don’t make mistakes along the way? Just because you may have fallen flat on your face in front of your crush, doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world! It teaches you to be prepared. If you’ve fallen once, you know you won’t do it again next time and can fix what went wrong! It’s a surefire way to get over being embarrassed because you can prevent from ever happening at all or learn to handle it in a cool, calm way!

This brings me to my next point! Learn to laugh, because it’s going to help you! I know first-hand! I remember one time when I was in high school during dance class, I attempted to do a karate kick, sending my foot straight into the air. I must’ve miscalculated because I landed butt first, on the hard cold floor. Instead of being embarrassed and running out of the room, I laughed. I laughed because outside of myself, it was actually pretty funny. Plus, if you laugh at yourself first, it won’t bother you when other people join in. People will see that your confidence isn’t broken easily as your initial reaction and will be less likely to make fun of you for it!

I’m sure you’ve had at least one embarrassing moment that has stuck with you for a while. Why not cleanse yourself by writing them all down in a list? If you only think about what is happening, right now, at the exact moment, it doesn’t leave you room to think that something will go wrong. You won’t be held prisoner to the idea that you will mess up, and believe me, that lifts a tremendous weight off your shoulders. I know it can be hard, because most people are wired to think about their futures and memories, but if you give it a try, it might do you a whole lot of good!
