1 Listen to Your Favorite Song 🎧🎼
A quick, but effective, pick-me-up when your day isn't going right, is to listen to your favorite song. Pop in your ear buds and hit play! Music is a powerful tool in changing moods and invigorating your spirit. Especially if it's a song that speaks to you personally. Don't select a depressing song though!
2 Watch a Funny Video! 👀📲🎬
Fortunately we live in a time where entertainment is literally at our fingertips. I've come across many short, hysterical, clips that seriously have me dying of laughter! Watching something funny, even if it's short, is a great way to brighten your day. And often times you'll keep thinking of that same video throughout the day, continuously putting a smile on your face! 😂
3 Breathe 👃🏼👄👌🏽
Elements of yoga can be practiced throughout the day, and you don't need your yoga mat. Deep breathing is incredibly beneficial for melting away stress and grounding your thoughts. Breathe in for a count of 4, hold for 7, and breathe out your mouth, slowly, for a count of 8. Repeat until you feel more calm and centered!
4 Light a Candle/burn Incense/defuse an Oil
Aromatherapy is the perfect tool for relaxation. There's a reason essential oils are used during a body massage! Light a candle, preferably an aromatherapy one, burn some incense, or defuse your favorite essential oil! Strong, pleasing smells have a way of uplifting and invigorating our senses. 👃🏼🙇🔥
5 Create a to-do List before Bed 📝🛌
Even before your day begins and has the potential to go south, create a to-do list the night before! There's nothing better than accomplishing goals you've written down and are able to go through and cross them out! They don't need to be huge goals and they don't even need to be tangible- perhaps your list could be practicing kindness, smiling at strangers, saying hello, etc.
6 Make Your Bed in the Morning! 🌅🛏
Making your bed everyday is a small, seeming insignificant task but it sure does a lot! Even if you get nothing else done that day, at least your bed is made and get to come home to it! It's more relaxing to see your bed made, than compared to a pile of crumpled up sheets and blankets. To me, that seems chaotic and the opposite of relaxing. So, try making your bed each morning and see if it helps!
7 Practice Gratitude 🙏🏼
When all is going wrong in your day, take a step back and just be still. Think about the things in your life that you're thankful for, that you might regularly take for granted. Things can always be worse so it's best to look at the bright side and be grateful for all the good in your life! It might even turn your day around!
8 Go for a Quick Jog 🏃🏻
Exercise has tons of physical benefits as well as mental! Since this article is about super quick ways to turn your day around, try going for a brisk jog around the block! Alternatively you could run up a few flights of stairs, just to get the blood pumping. It will energize you and give you clarity of thought.
9 Coffee/tea Break ☕️🍵
Maybe you just need a little pick-me-up to lift your mood! Grab a friend and get a coffee to-go while you're on a break. A caffeine boost generally gets me out of a mid-day slump and makes me happier and more productive!
