Halloween is such fun. When is there any other time when you can go all it to dress in an awesome costume? I’m pretty sure more people would dress up if they could think of a costume they can and want to wear. If you want to dress up, whether for the first time or just need some inspo, here are my top tips for choosing a Halloween costume.

1. DIY YOUR OWN COSTUME
Don’t just head over to the nearest costume store. Head to your closet instead. Making your own costume is part of the fun of Halloween. It also enables you to be more creative and make a costume your own unique creation rather than just buying some already put together ensemble.
2. COMBINE VARIOUS IDEAS
Can’t decide between a nurse and a zombie? Why not a zombie nurse? Halloween is a time to be creative so why limit yourself to one idea? Combine all of your ideas for a truly unique and one of a kind costume that will make you stand out.
3. FRIENDS WHO DRESS up TOGETHER STAY TOGETHER
Don’t you think everything is more fun with your friends. That includes Halloween, so why not have a group costume. Get your BFFs together and brainstorm ideas. After all, three, four, or five heads are better than one.
4. GET COMICAL
Why be a slutty French maid when you can run around making people laugh till they snort out their candy corn! Having a funny costume will make you stand out from the crowd. You’ll also be sure to get tons of compliments on your awesome costume and your even more awesome sense of humor.

You could go with the traditional costumes that people have been wearing for years. Or you could take something modern and fresh and turn it into a costume. Try a character from a recent movie, or a political figure. You might even reference a recent viral # or meme. Whatever people are talking about, turn it into an ironic and contemporary costume.

6. TURN BACK TIME
Halloween is the time to release your inner kid. Make your costume a trip down memory lane. Dress up as a character from your favorite childhood TV show or as a toy you used to play with. Everyone will be jealous they didn’t think of it first.
7. MAKE the EFFORT
Halloween is not the time to hold back. It’s the time to go crazy wild. What other time do you get to dress up totally insane when no one judges you? Why stop out an outfit? Make sure you go the whole hog with a funky mask, flashy jewelry, showy hair accessories, and OTT shoes. There’s no limit.
