Trim down Your Routine

Alright ladies, the first thing to learn when trying to find ways to make the most of a short shower is to trim down your routine. I used to go all out in the shower with makeup remover, face wash, shampoo, shaving cream, body wash, hair conditioning masks, and even exfoliating brushes and scrubs. As the saying goes, “Ain’t nobody got time for that!” Trim down that routine because you really don’t need to do all that everyday. My routine now? I use a sea salt soap bar to remove my makeup and wash my face. It’s also soft enough for me to use as my body wash and as shaving cream. I also only wash my hair every other day and on alternate days, just pin it up and let it do its thing! That takes me down to around 5 minutes in the shower now, compared to 25 minutes before.

Let the Water Get Hot First

Turn on your water about 2-3 minutes before you get in while you do something else. This will help steam up the bathroom and save you a few minutes instead of dawdling. Brush your teeth at the sink while the shower is getting hot and then, when you get in, it will be hot and ready.

3

Keep Everything Handy

If you have to go hunting for your shower supplies, you’re wasting time. I keep my soap and washcloths together in a closet in the bathroom so I can just reach and go. Right beside those items are my undies to put on afterwards and my hair conditioner and shampoo so I can grab everything at one time and just hop in. This helps you save time if you’re not already using this trick, so definitely give it a try.

4

Wash First

The first thing I do when I get in the shower is immediately wash my face, and then body. Then, I can immediately shave since the lather from the soft soap I use doubles as a shaving cream. After that, all I have to do is wash my hair if it’s a wash day, rinse, condition, and I’m done. If it’s not a wash day, I use the extra few minutes to just enjoy the hot water and try to relax a little.

5

Do the Same Routine Daily

One other thing that will help you make the most out of a short shower is to do the same routine each day. Switching things up takes more time, because routines are usually familiar, so we are naturally faster at them. Get in the habit of doing things in the same order each day and you’ll be faster in no time.

Put Your Hair in Curlers First

Though this tip doesn’t shorten your shower routine, it does help save you time if you’re short on time getting ready. If you hot roll your hair, let me share this trick with you! If I’m not washing my hair that day, I hot roll it in curlers while the shower is getting hot, brush my teeth, and then hop in with the curlers in my hair. The steam from the shower actually helps set the curls faster, so long as you don’t get your hair wet! Then, when you get out, you can take down your hair, and you’re ready to go!

Dry Shampoo

Another tip for days you don’t have time to wash your hair is to just use dry shampoo instead. I don’t do this on a regular basis, but if I know I’m short on shower time, or in a crisis when the power goes out and I have to take a cold shower, it really comes in handy!

The most important tip for making the most of a short shower is to wash first and everything else is secondary. As long as you’re clean, you can make the rest work somehow! What’s your best tip on making the most of a short shower?
