Murder Mystery
Have you ever been to a Murder Mystery dinner? I have and they are an incredible amount of fun! You may think these types of things aren’t for you because they require far too much planning, but mymysteryparty.com has made it incredibly simple for you! For $31.95 you get the entire party 100% planned out for you, including all the characters' names, descriptions and what sort of outfits they should wear! A murder mystery party is one of the most entertaining home party themes that I have ever experienced!
Handmade
If you have a crafty group of friends, throw a Handmade party during holiday times such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, etc. I have a group of 6 really close friends and we always get together for a girls' Valentine’s dinner or Christmas dinner, etc. After a few years of everyone buying presents for everyone else, we realized it was way too costly to keep doing this several times per year... but we all enjoy giving each other gifts, so we started doing handmade only parties. We each use our creative talents to make a handmade gift for everyone at the party. I have been given anything from homemade ornaments to cake mix in a coffee mug and handmade jewelry. I love all of my gifts and treasure them even more because of the love that went into making them for me!
Frequently asked questions
Random Holiday
Every month (if not every day) has a wacky or oddball holiday. August, for instance, is Peach month, while September has Punch, Butterscotch Pudding, Cheeseburger, Apple Dumpling, Cream Filled Donut, Chocolate Milkshake and Cheese Pizza days to name a few. Check out holidayinsights.com to see all of the monthly, weekly or daily “holidays” and base your entire party around that event. See who can make the best chocolate milkshake using a variety of ingredients or whose cheese pizza is to die for! It’s a tremendous amount of silly fun!
Whole Foods
The Paleo diet is a big thing now, and more and more information is being revealed about whole foods and how they help your body and your health. Host a dinner party where everything you serve is whole foods and sit around the TV watching a few food documentaries on Netflix. Just make sure you do this with people who are actually interested in it, don’t try to push your own beliefs on friends who are perfectly happy with their own way of life.
Tasting Parties
Yum! I love tasting parties of all sorts! I’m a huge wine fan so I love wine tastings and/or cheese tastings, but have you considered having a chocolate tasting party? There is a tremendous amount of chocolates out there that most people haven’t tried. Lindt’s chili chocolate sounded disgusting to me until I tried it and now I’m hooked on it! Always taste from light (white) to the darkest chocolate possible to really be able to tell the difference.

7 Deadly Sins
There are, of course, the 7 heavenly virtues, but the 7 deadly sins are much more fun for a party night! Have each of your guests choose a sin (Wrath, Pride, Sloth, Greed, Envy, Lust, and Gluttony) and dress accordingly (decked out in jewels and glitz for greed, lingerie for lust, etc.), and try to come up with a few themed foods. Devil’s food cake for wrath, something deep friend and delicious for gluttony… you get the idea! It is an absolute blast!
Summer is the perfect time to host a home party. With the weather being warm and inviting, it’s the perfect opportunity to gather your closest friends and family and celebrate. If you’re looking for a fun and memorable theme for your next home party, why not try out the 7 Deadly Sins?
This theme is perfect for a night of fun and mischief. Have each of your guests choose a sin (wrath, pride, sloth, greed, envy, lust, and gluttony) and dress accordingly. It can be as simple as wearing something luxurious and flashy for greed, or something more risqué for lust. You can also come up with some themed food to go along with the party. Devil’s food cake for wrath, something deep fried and delicious for gluttony, and so on.
You can also add some games and activities to your party to make it even more memorable. Try setting up a game of “Truth or Dare”, with the dare being related to the seven deadly sins. Or have a contest to see who can come up with the most creative costume for their chosen sin.
Haunted House
Haunted houses aren’t just for Halloween, my friend! Making icky, scary, slimy appetizers is way too fun to only be allowed once a year! Hit the craft department and buy some gauzy material to string up and make spider webs. Replace your light bulbs with orange or purple colored bulbs for an eerie glow. Make Jell-O “worms” by pouring Jell-O into a fistful of bendy straws. Cut up some hot dogs to look like human fingers. Check out Pinterest for a billion more super creative ideas!
I hope you use some of these memorable home party themes for your next event! You can really make a theme out of anything you want! You can even do something as simple as picking a color and asking everyone to dress in that color while you decorate in that color. Parties are already a ton of fun, this only amplifies it! What is your favorite party theme?
