Local Efforts

Not everybody can help others at the global level or dedicate a lot of time to relief efforts. However, more locally-centered community programs also allow you to make a positive impact on the lives of people in need. Examples of what you can do are volunteer at a soup kitchen, participate in a charity event, tutor struggling students, and offer to deliver food to shut-ins.

Day-to-Day Actions

Many good deeds fall into this category. Caring about people and being helpful do not have to go with a formal agency or organization. You can contribute as an individual by inviting a homeless person to dinner, donating money to a charity, reaching out to a person who is isolated.

Today, more than 130 million people are currently in crisis and are in need of assistance of some sort. World Humanitarian Day (WHD) is held every year on 19 August to pay tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in service, and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world. It is a day dedicated to humanitarians worldwide, as well as to increase public understanding of humanitarian assistance activities.
