7 Ways to Relax at Night besides Watching TV ...

Chelsie

After working all day, it can be tempting to sit in front of the TV to relax, but there are other ways to relax at night. Everyone needs to wind down and decompress after a long day. Taking some time to relax helps you sleep better since your mind won’t be buzzing from all of the activity of the day. You can watch TV to relax, but watching TV isn’t one of the best ways to relax at night. The blue light from the TV can suppress the sleep inducing hormone, melatonin. Thankfully, there are many other ways to relax at night that will help you wind down and won’t prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep.

1

Take a Leisurely Walk

One of the best ways to relax at night is to take a leisurely walk through your neighborhood. You can look at everyone’s garden and listen to the birds chirp. You may also hear crickets or see lightning bugs. You will probably also see kids playing in the street. You can go for a walk by yourself, or you can bring your family along. Either way, you will feel more relaxed by the end of your walk.

2

Have a Bubble Bath

Bubble baths are not just for kids - they are also for adults who need to relax. For a peaceful bath, turn on some quiet music and light some candles while the tub fills up. Then, add some of your favorite bubble bath, or you can add some essential oils, like lavender, for some aromatherapy.

3

Read a Good Book

Reading is a fantastic way to unwind at night. It will take your mind off of the worries of the day. I love snuggling up with a blanket and a book at the end of the day, because it is so relaxing. Of course, for a truly enjoyable experience, you should pick a book you want to read, not a book you have to read.

4

Play Board Games

If you want to have a little fun to help yourself decompress after a long day, play board games with your family or friends. There are many different fun games to choose from. You can play a classic, like Monopoly, or you can play one of the newer trivia games. My personal favorite is Pictionary. It is hard not to laugh at some of the drawings that people come up with.

5

Work on a Puzzle

For a more quiet way to relax, you can always work on a puzzle. Putting together a large puzzle can be a great way to spend time with your family in the evenings. It is an activity that you and your family can come back to, and it is so rewarding when you are finished. Plus, you won’t be thinking about your stressful day. You will be trying to find puzzle pieces.

Pull out the Art Supplies

Even if you are not great at art, you can still have fun drawing or painting. Creating artwork is so much fun, and it is a great way to unwind at night. Just make sure you don’t start judging your art. The point is to have fun, not create a masterpiece.

7

Have a Conversation on the Front Porch

For a relaxing evening, you can always keep it very simple and sit outside with a friend or loved one and spend the evening talking. You can vent about your day or talk about your goals. Essentially, the sky is the limit when it comes to what you can talk about. What is most important is that you spend an enjoyable evening with someone you care about.

Taking time to relax in the evening is important. While you can watch TV to unwind, there are many other great ways to relax at night. What do you do to unwind after a long day?
