7 Traditionally Female Skills You Don't Actually Need to Have ...

Holly

Thankfully, we live in a time where it's okay if you hold the skills of a traditional woman or if you're completely modern. "Feminine" activities are no longer a requirement of being a woman--they're just things that you have the choice to do or not to do. It's all up to you! Isn't that beautiful? Here are some of the traditionally female skills that you don't need to have if they don't interest you:

Gardening

Gardening can be a blast, but there's absolutely no need to do it if it doesn't interest you. Even if you love flowers, you can buy them in pots at the store and water them when they need it. It'll keep your house looking fresh and flowery without you having to spend time in the dirt outside. Not everybody needs an actual garden.

2

Cooking

It's important to know how to whip up a few meals so that you're not always eating fast food. However, there's no need to be a spectacular chef. You could delegate the cooking duties to your husband or hire a professional if you end up earning enough money. As long as you know how to pour cereal and warm up leftovers, you'll survive.

Frequently asked questions

3

Knitting

It's a good idea to learn how to sew a button back onto your coat, but other than that, there's no reason to feel bad about not knowing how to knit. Unless you want to become a fashion designer, the skill isn't going to determine your worth as a human being. Only learn how to do it if it's fun for you.

4

Crafting

We're not all Martha Stewart clones. If you can't stand scrapbooking or creating personalized gifts, it's okay. You don't have to be artistic in order for you to land a husband, be a mother, or feel like a real woman.

5

Cleaning

Okay, this is one that is actually pretty important, to a certain extent. You don't want your dishes to pile up or your house to start smelling, so you better hope that your boyfriend or roommate is willing to clean. If they're not, you'll have to do a certain amount of housework, but you don't need to dust every corner of the house and shine your shoes. Just do what needs to be done.

Decorating

Some people obsess over what color to paint their living rooms and what type of wood to buy for their desks. If you couldn't care less about those things, good for you. There's nothing wrong with buying whatever random furniture you need and being done with the shopping as quickly as possible. Paintings and moldings can make a room look beautiful, but they certainly aren't necessary if you aren't interested in them. Hey, you'll save plenty of money, so it's a good thing.

7

Mothering

If you have no desire to be a mother, don't let anyone put you down for it. Some people aren't meant to be parents. So if you freak out whenever you're asked to hold a baby or change a diaper, it doesn't make you any less of a woman.

If you possess all of these skills, it's impressive! However, if you can't preform any of them, then that's fine, too! You have the freedom to choose whether or not you want to pursue them. Are you more of a traditional woman, a modern one, or a mix of both?

Im 26 mother of 2 and i do 6 of these i tried to knot bit i couldn't ...i did buy a loom knotter though.. So maybe seven but i cheat a bit lol i do consider myself somewhat old school traditional

I do all of these however I don't consider myself traditional at all I consider myself free spirited and a bit nuts so I'm shocked some would consider me traditional in anyway when most consider me gothic or eccentric

I think these are skills all females obtain. So it's not about not needing them (cos most women do), it's about whether we choose to enhance these natural skills we have :)

I don't craft or knit and I have no interest in doing so. I do all the others well though. My eldest daughter hates to cook but she crafts like a maniac. We all do our lives differently!

I am proficient in 5 of the 7 skills

@splashhhh - as long as they don't have kids or something. That's perfectly fine.

Finally, someone that understands!! I always felt like I was a terrible excuse for a woman - because I'm not that great at a lot of "typical female things", but now I realize, we don't need to live up to the expectations of society. I do think it's great that different people (men and women alike) are great at the things mentioned in this list. I personally wish I was better at crafting, teehee ;)

Yh but we r talking generally here if we put it that wY every thing in life has exeption

If I knew then, what I know now, mothering would be off my life plan. However I'm 27 years too late and while my son and daughter are fabulous human beings and I'm desperately proud of them? I would rather be crafting, knitting? Coking..... You get the picture?

I completely agree with Holly...and congratulate all of you ladies who have chosen to embrace one or all seven of these skills. With no disrespect to Holly, I remain irked that in 2015 our society would still consider these skills "female"! Obviously having a baby is uniquely female, but men are just as capable of "mothering" as women. Just saying, ladies😏
