Tidy up Your Desk
One of the first things you should start with if you want to remove clutter from your life is to tidy up your desk. If you spend a lot of time sitting down at your desk and getting your work done, then you should organize your work space so you can be more efficient. Just remove old sticky notes, get rid of all the junk mail and old magazines or any other things you don’t use or need. Store the items from your desk in your desk drawers and enjoy the new free space you have.
Organize Your Closet
I know it may seem a bit difficult at first, but in order to remove clutter from your life, you need to organize your closet. I’m talking about getting rid of all those clothes you don’t wear anymore, all those items that are damaged or that don’t fit you anymore. You could try the Oprah Winfrey Closet Hanger Experiment, which goes something like this: “To identify wardrobe pieces to clear out, hang all your clothes with the hangers in the reverse direction. After you wear an item, return it to the closet with the hanger facing the correct direction. After six months, you’ll have a clear picture of which clothes you can easily discard.”
Frequently asked questions
Organize Your Drawers
If you can’t seem to find anything you’re looking for, then maybe it’s time to organize your drawers and get rid of all those things you don’t use or need. Get rid of everything that is broken, damaged, leaking or expired, and donate any products you never used or that you no longer need. You don’t need five can openers, so why keep them all? Maybe someone else would appreciate such a gift, so what are you waiting for? Start giving things away!
Sort out Your Files
Gather all those files that are scattered around your house or your office and sort them out. Go through each of them, see how many of them you actually need and the others, just throw them away. All the materials that are expired or which you no longer need should be shredded. Get rid of all the clutter by arranging your files and documents, so you can easily find what you need when you are looking for a particular thing.
The Four-Box Method
When you are working on de-cluttering an area of your house, bring four boxes with you: trash, give away, keep and relocate. Then, place each item of that area in one of those four boxes and you will have a much clearer image of what to keep, what to relocate, what to donate or what you should throw away.

By writing down these things, you will have a clearer image of what you should keep, what you want, what you need, what you like and what you should get rid of.
