Happy Human Rights Day, stalkers! Today's the day the UN General Assembly established to bring the world's attention to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the ideology behind the holiday is more important now than ever.
This year the theme is Human Rights 365, because the UN believes that we should celebrate Human Rights Day every day, all year long. To quote the UN, today “celebrates the fundamental proposition in the Universal Declaration that each one of us, everywhere, at all times is entitled to the full range of human rights, that human rights belong equally to each of us and bind us together as a global community with the same ideals and values.” That's an idea I can get behind – how about you?
How you choose to celebrate is ultimately up to you, as long as it's positive, uplifting, and geared toward upholding equal human rights. Learn something about a different country or culture, a different religion, a different belief system – just go into it with empathy, enthusiasm, and a desire to understand.
