Everybody has their own unique morning routine to start the day off right. Mine consists of choosing the right song that will get me out of bed and set the tone for the rest of my day. Every day it’s a different track, it just depends on what kind of mood I am in. No matter how I feel, there is always the perfect song to get me moving. Here are some of my favorite tunes to listen to in the morning.
It’s not necessarily easy for some to get up in the morning but a good song can change it all. This track always makes my day off to a good start. Released in September 2012, «Something Good» is about "the death of a matador as an analogy for the slow mending of a broken heart through fun distractions". The slow rhythm, the soft voice of Joe Newman and the piano melody create an appealing blend of sounds.
Hunter Hunted is my latest music discovery and what a great surprised! The debut EP from the California band is very addictive. Released in February 2013, the band is getting a great buzz lately. «Keep Together» is a super catchy track with an energetic beat and I can’t help but smile and dance every time I hear that song.
Sometimes there is one song that makes you just feel alive. «Gold» by Wake Owl, one of my favorite Canadian bands, gives me the feeling that everything is possible. This is my perfect track to listen to when I’m feeling down in the morning. Gold is the first single off their EP «Wild Country», released in January 2013. The drum beats builds up intensity going into a beautiful chorus. The lyrics and vocals really shine on this track.
Japandroids' «The House That Heaven Built» was voted by fans as the new Vancouver Canucks' entrance song, beating out songs by Nickelback and Guns ‘N Roses. It’s the perfect track to listen to when you feel rebellious. It’s the adrenaline boost to start off your morning with full of energy. Canadian rock duo released their second album «Celebration of Rock» in January 2012.
It’s Friday morning and you need a song to kick off the weekend? Listen to «My Number» by Foals. The pop beat always got me tapping my foot and bobbing my head. The lyrics of the chorus ‘You don’t have my number, we don’t need each other’ are extremely catchy. I've been playing the song pretty much non-stop since I first heard it.
Some days I need a killer rock ‘n’ roll song to get me going. Vancouver’s band Yukon Blonde has the perfect track to boost up your entire day. Off their latest album «Tiger Talk», released in 2012, «Radio» is a driving rock song with some hot guitar solos. This track reminds me of some classic rock music.
It’s not a new track but it’s definitely a good one to keep on going the weekend festivities on Sunday Funday. Brunch with friends, a mimosa in your hand and «Call it what you want» will make your day even better. Released in 2011 as the group's third single from their debut album «Torches», the melodic pop beats mixed with a disco groove will for sure make your friends dance.
I’ve developed the pattern to put on some music the moment I get up and it makes me feel happier. It helps me get from slow to go and puts a smile on my face for the rest of the day! Music always makes everything better.
