There are quite a few signs you are a creative person, even though you may think otherwise. On this matter, Picasso couldn’t have said it any better: “Others have seen what is and asked why…I have seen what could be and asked why not.” Even though you don’t consider yourself to be a creative person, there are still a few things you should keep in mind when you make this assumption. Apparently, fresh and innovative ideas come easier to some people than others, and this happens because there are a handful of traits associated with highly creative individuals. Then again, keep in mind the wise words of Pablo Picasso, who also said that “Every child is an artist, the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.” Here are a few very clear signs you are a creative person even if you don’t see yourself as the creative type:

You Are Very Curious
One of the most obvious signs you are a creative person is the fact that you’re always curious, that you always ask a lot of questions and that you don’t give up until you find their answers. Just like Leo Burnett said, “Curiosity about life in all its aspects, I think, is still the secret of great creative people.” A stagnant mind who doesn’t have any questions doesn’t have the capacity to create.
You Have an Amazing Flexibility
Creative people are very flexible, they can come up with extremely original solutions to a wide range of problems. They usually look at things from different perspectives and they are able to see all the distinct aspects of an issue. Just like Dr. Seuss said, “Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try.”
Frequently asked questions
You Find Beauty in the Ordinary
If you always find beauty in the ordinary and if you can really appreciate how wonderful and why not, extraordinary the small things are, the things that most people don’t usually notice, then you might be a very creative person. You do know that true beauty lies in simplicity and you are in constant awe of the world around you. I really love what Charles Mingus said, since I find it to be really inspiring and also very true: “Creativity is more than just being different. Anybody can plan weird; that’s easy. What’s hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple, awesomely simple, that’s creativity.”
You Seek Inspiration
You always seek inspiration wherever you go, whether it’s to an opening of an art gallery, a museum, a play or simply to listen to some live music at your local downtown bar. You always search for inspiration wherever and whenever you can find it. Yet, at the same time, you should keep in mind Jack London’s advice: “You can’t wait for inspiration, you have to go after it with a club.”
You Have a Hunger for Originality
You have a real hunger for originality. Even if everyone seems to be all about rules and systems, you just don’t see things this way. You have a more rebellious spirit or a rebellious attitude and you always do those things that no one else does. You are goal oriented, very ambitious and you often fluctuate between daydreaming and perceived reality. Voltaire once said that “Originality is nothing but judicious imitation.” Do you agree with him?

Your Mind Has an Associative Orientation
You always have an active imagination, you are very playful, you have a wealth of ideas and you can transition very easily, almost effortlessly between fact and fiction. You also have the ability to become really absorbed in your work and you make more of your raw material like experiences and emotions. Just follow Ray Bradbury’s advice and “Don’t think. Thinking is the enemy of creativity. It’s self-conscious, and anything self-conscious is lousy. You can’t try to do things. You simply must do things.”
You Hate Stereotypes
Almost all creative people hate stereotypes. They are aware of the fact that people are extremely different from each other and that they are way too complicated to be considered a part of a certain category or to assume that similar individuals would act the same in similar circumstances. Just like Albert Einstein said, “Creativity is contagious, pass it on.”
Highly creative people have a lot of characteristics since they are very complex individuals. I just mentioned a few in this little article but I’m sure there are many more I haven’t talked about.
