7 Perks of Being a Nerd ...
By Kelly

I personally love benefiting from all of the perks of being a nerd. Being a nerd is probably one of my favorite things about myself. Some of my friends may make fun of me for the weird shows and movies I watch or my obsession with science fiction. But I don’t mind because the perks of being a nerd are awesome.

1. Never Playing It Cool

This is one of the most important perks of being a nerd. Simon Pegg said it best when he said that it means, “never having to play it cool about how much you like something.” And he was right. When you are a nerd, you can obsess over all the dorky things you love. Who cares if you watch Star Trek for hours on end? Being a nerd means that you can shout it from the rooftops.

Enthusiastically embracing your passions is the hallmark of a true nerd. The judgmental glances of others become irrelevant as you dive into endless conversations about the lore of Middle-earth or the complexities of the Whedonverse. Your excitement is contagious, inspiring others to discover their own inner nerd. Unapologetically attending every comic con dressed as your favorite character, or owning the most extensive collection of memorabilia doesn't make you odd; it makes you authentically joyful. There's no shame in finding solace in the stories and universes you love; in fact, it's a superpower in its own right.

2. So Much Learning

It kind of comes along with the territory that being a nerd means you get to learn so much. It’s not weird when you stay in on the weekends to study and even the shows you get to watch are somewhat educational. Learning comes along with the territory of being a nerd. And that benefits you in the end. Follow your nerdy passions for science, physics, and computers and learn as much as you can.

***

Embrace those moments when your curiosity piques, whether it's a weekend coding marathon or a deep-dive into the mysterious black holes of space. Often, the most exciting discoveries come from a personal quest for knowledge. With each new concept mastered, you're not simply indulging a hobby; you're shaping a versatile and powerful mind. Remember, today's quirky obsession could be tomorrow's career breakthrough, so don't shy away from those documentaries, books, and experiments that light a spark in your intellect.

3. Friendships

Nerds love to hang out with other nerds. The instant I find out that someone watched Doctor Who, we’re instantly friends. One of best perks of being a nerd is that it brings people together. Nerds are very passionate about being nerds, and when you meet other people with that passion, it creates instant friendships.

***

It's like finding your tribe of kindred spirits who get you in a way others might not. Whether it’s over a heated debate about Star Trek vs Star Wars, or bonding over the latest comic book releases, these friendships run deep. Nerds don't shy away from expressing enthusiasm, and that’s infectious. The conversations are rich, the jokes land just right, and the sense of community is undeniable. Plus, with nerd friends, you never have to explain your references—they're already on the same page, ready to laugh or gasp right along with you.

4. The Best TV Shows & Movies

I love all typically “nerdy” movies and shows. The reason why? Because they are amazing! Ever since I was little, I have loved science fiction and nerdy movies and TV shows.

Sunshine and blue skies bring positivity and joy and it's important for every woman to take full advantage of it. Even when stuck indoors, it's still possible to enjoy some good vibes. 5. Endless Imagination

Nerds have the most incredible imaginations. They see things in a different way than most people. That’s what is so great about being a nerd. You have an endless imagination that changes the way you see the world. And that can be one of the best perks of being a nerd that there is.

6. Books

Books come along with the territory of being a nerd. As a nerd, you love to learn and that is what books allow you. Books can take you anywhere in the world, all within the comfort of your own home. Being a nerd lets you feel no guilt about cuddling up with any kind of book you want and just losing yourself in a story.

7. Nerds Rule the World

Think about all of the nerds who have done great things. They are the Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and Albert Einsteins of the world. They were all nerds and they all changed the world. Being a nerd is becoming more and more acceptable and even more and more desired. So embrace your nerd and go out and change the world.

You should never be ashamed to call yourself a nerd. Being a nerd is something you should be proud of. And if you are going to be a nerd, you should at least enjoy all of the perks of being a nerd. Do you consider yourself a nerd? What is your favorite perk of being a nerd? What makes a nerd a nerd?

Whaaaaat ? It doesnt make sense at all either its an insult to all smart ppl or incouriging the nerds i dont get it

But now, jocks are more valued, and soon smartness will be forever forgotten.

I agree with some of this, but it seems like nowadays being a "nerd" is just another way of being "cool".

Just because you wear lensless 3d glasses doesn't mean you're a nerd!

Have we learned nothing from The Breakfast Club, labels build walls and we don't get to know the real people behind them for who they really are.

Putting on glasses that are too large for your face and saying that you like doctor who doesn't make you a nerd

Shout out for the nerds!

The books, totally the books!! And i hate when books are turned into movies/series because they just get ruined Except PLL it's absolutely P.E.R.F.E.C.T both the books n the series

Just because you're laughed at for something doesn't make you a nerd. I feel what Adrianne was saying is true because people classify themselves as true nerds are becoming another exclusive group like so called "cool" people. Whose real who isn't and all these stereotype qualifications you have to meet to be apart of the group. What is cool varies among people. I love reading, but I also like other popular shows as well. I had both "nerd" friends and "cool" friends. In the end people are people and are complex and like what they like, don't simplify yourself to fit any mold or broad generalization. I was laughed at for liking reading and laughed at for liking "cool" type shows. It's just exhausting trying to keep up for any group overall.

Steve jobs was never a nerd he was a college dropout :p
