Make Space

Sorting and clearing: It’s time to open the door and tackle this room. Go through everything in it and sort into the three piles - keep, donate, and throw away. Be ruthless - if you forgot you owned it, you don’t need it. Once you have the items you want to keep - is there anywhere else in the home that they can be moved to? If not, consider a storage unit like these from Cubic Storage. That way you don’t have to get rid of it but it also won’t be cluttering up your much-needed space.

Repurpose the Room

Now for the fun part - transform the room into something you really want. A space that will be beneficial and that you will enjoy being in. One that you might want to shut the door on - but with you on the inside rather than the outside.

There are so many ways to repurpose your room. Whether you want it to be something useful such as a laundry room or would prefer to create something a bit more fun like a games room or bar complete with a disco ball - the choice is yours. But, here are a few ideas, if you're not sure what to do with it.

A Home Gym

Do you love to workout? Then why not create a space dedicated to this in your own home. Dumbbells, resistance bands, kettlebells, balance ball, yoga mat, treadmill - whatever you like to use to keep fit can be purchased for your home gym. You’ll be able to find equipment however big - or small - the space. Plus, it’ll save you a lot in membership fees each year.

A Walk-in Wardrobe

Do you keep wearing the clothes you have just washed to save rummaging through your drawers and wardrobe because it is crammed with clothing? Always dreamed of having a walk-in wardrobe? Well, now you can. Fill the space with rails, drawers, and shelves to organize your clothes and shoes so you can actually see what you have. Then add the finishing touches - perhaps a mirror or even a dressing table.

A Reading Room

Do you love to read? Then why not have a space dedicated to it? Think comfy beanbags, blankets, and cushions, low lighting, fairy lights, and candles. Not to mention the bookshelf that will organize and display all your books. It’ll be so cozy you’ll never want to leave it.

An Office

As more of us start to work from home, many indefinitely - why not create an office yourself? Get a desk, chair, and computer for starters. Then, add the finishing touches such as plants and prints. This is also ideal if you are studying or have kids who are. It’ll provide a quiet space where you can concentrate that is separate from your living space.

A Hobby Room

Do you love to make jewelry, sew, paint? Whatever your hobby - move everything you need into this room from easels to sewing machines and create a space that is dedicated to it. If you don’t already, it’ll encourage you to spend more time doing what you love and enable you to shut yourself away and enjoy some peace while doing it. You never know, your hobby might become more than that now you have given yourself space - and time - to work on it.

Finally: Enjoy

Now all the hard work is done and that messy room is a distant memory all that is left for you to do is enjoy the space that you have created.

So, what are you waiting for - start thinking about what you want your room to be now and you’ll be enjoying it before you know it.
