Harry Potter Facts are easy to come by, if you know where to look. I am totally a Potter fan and a complete Potterhead. I love everything about the series – from the books to the movies. I'm on my way to finishing the series via books now, but I have dedicated my life to the HP movies and let me tell you, there are a ton of Harry Potter facts that you might not know about! Below, I've compiled the top 10 Harry Potter facts that hey, I didn't know before I made this list up!
For example, do you know how many species of dragons are mentioned in the Harry Potter series? 10! Personally, I loved when in the Goblet of Fire they had all of the different dragons protecting the golden egg. Which was your favorite?
Bet I got you on this one right? The original name for the Death Eaters was The Knights of Walpurgis, however J.K Rowling decided to change it. I actually think that The Knights of Walpurgis sounds a little cool – but I don't think I'd fear them. What do you think? Which name do you prefer?
For those of you Potter fans, you probably know this is one of the most important Harry Potter facts. The reasoning behind it's importance is because Harry's wand and He-who-must-not-be-named's wand had the same core. Thankfully, the Elder Wand is not made up of Phoenix but it is actually made up of the tail hair of a Thestral and guess what, it's the only wand in existence that has that core.
Harry Potter facts are not always about the story, but also about the actors and actresses that bring us so much joy. Did you know that the chick who played Moaning Myrtle was 37 when she started playing that character? Not that I am saying that 37 is old ladies, but she was the oldest character on the set for Harry Potter.
I bet that Rowling had to think long and hard about where Sirius's tattoos should come from. His tattoos were actually borrowed from the Russian prison gangs. How unique is that? The markings typically identify the person as someone that should be respected and feared.
Oh Hedwig, I will forever mourn your death. Hedwig brings us to our next set of Harry Potter facts though – such as how many owls played our pretty white Hedwig? Seven. I never would've guessed that there were seven different owls playing Hedwig! Also – most of them were male because they are whiter and lighter.
One of the first Harry Potter facts that I learned about when I first looked up this list was HP's scar. Did you know that it actually had to be applied 5,800 times? It's probably because with makeup, it's super easy to sweat it off. Still, that's a heck of a lot of touch-ups!
So I am actually a huge, huge Draco fan. I love everything about Tom Felton – even his snacking habits. Apparently, they had to sew up Tom's robe pockets so that he wouldn't be caught sneaking food onto the set. Oh Tom!
So if you are a true-blue HP fan, you know all about Dolores Umbridge's kittens. Remember that horrid Pepto pink? All of the kittens on the decorative plates around her office? Well, they had to use about 40 kittens to create that effect. Crazy right?
J.K Rowling likes to keep mystery in her books, I love that about her. In the 'Order of the Phoenix' she was actually going to kill Arthur Weasley instead of Sirius Black. For me? I'd love to have seen the rough draft and how it would have all played out if Sirius did survive, but overall, I'm pretty happy with how the story came out.
So all of you Harry Potter fans, what did you think? Did these Harry Potter facts help clear up some lingering questions? Heck, maybe you learned something new like I did! Do you y'all have any Harry Potter facts to share with me? I'd love to hear some more!
