1

Slow down

When you feel yourself starting to get a new obsession or giving into the rush of an old obsession, slow down. Step back and take a moment to assess what you are doing. Is it worth it? Do you really want to spend your time being obsessive about this? That's one way to stop being obsessive before you even get started!

2

Balance Your Life

In order to stop being obsessive or prevent obsession, make sure you keep your life balanced. If you have other people and other activities in your life to keep you distracted, it's likely that you won't have as much time to be obsessed. If you have a work obsession, make sure that you take time off to enjoy yourself and have a good time. All work and no play makes jack a dull boy!

3

Ask for Help

Don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it. That's one of the ways to stop being obsessive! If you have a trusted friend or family member, talk to them about your obsession. Have them hold you accountable and do things with you to keep your mind off of your obsession. If nothing else, they can be there to talk with you and help get your frustrations out.

4

Focus on Something else

If you start to notice yourself drifting into obsession land, here's what you can do to stop being obsessive. Focus your attention immediately on something else. Your niece's birthday present, what you are going to wear tomorrow or the weird noise your car was making on the way to work. Immediately averting your attention and putting it on something else will help to get your head back in the game and wipe out your obsession.

5

Take a Break

The fastest, easiest way to stop being obsessive over something is to take a break from it. If it's work you're obsessing over, take a lunch break, get out of the office and clear your head. If it's your diet you're obsessing over, stop dieting! You can start next week fresh and new minus the obsessing.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Do Something to Relax

Obsessing over something can often cause stress and anxiety. When that happens, you need to relax and take your mind off of everything. If possible, get away for a mini vacay. Other options include unwinding with a massage, a pedicure, or a bubble bath. Or even a jog! Jogging is a good stress reliever.

Remember You Are Your Worst Enemy

Perhaps the most effective way to stop being obsessive is to remember that the only person you truly hurt by being obsessive is yourself. YOU are your own worst enemy. Once you can come to terms with this, it may be easier to stop being obsessive. Nobody wants to hurt themselves!
