By Vladlena

I’ve always admired social butterflies, who seem so comfortable in their skin; they know how to communicate with others under any circumstances, while some of us are stuck with figuring out ways to be less socially awkward. For example, if you are anything like me, awkwardness comes naturally to you. You don’t even have to try! Let’s face it, though, our awkwardness will not slide in the real world. 1. Don’t Worry What People Think of You

One of the ways to be less socially awkward is to let go of the worry of other people’s opinion. Most of the awkwardness stems from insecurities, so in order to minimize any social impairments that you might have, you have to change your mindset. You have to avoid caring about what others might think of you and instead show your true personality, no matter how different you may be from the norm. Plus the more eccentric and unique you are, the more people will be interested in you.

2. Fill in the Awkward Silences

When it comes to conversations, it is crucial to keep it flowing. If there are fewer pauses, your whole experience will be more enjoyable. Therefore, fill those awkward silences by bringing up interesting topics that both parties will be able to relate to, and as a last resort, make a few classic jokes here and there.

3. Develop Your Confidence

When it comes to the social scene, confidence is the key. When you radiate confidence, trust me, others will be able to tell the difference by your body language and the way you carry yourself in general. Therefore, don’t be afraid to be bold and get out there, because it all works out in your favor.

4. Be Interested in Others

The only way to push awkwardness aside is to establish a good flow of input in a conversation. The only way to ensure that the conversation maintains its natural flow is to show interest in others. Avoid letting your conversation partner do all of the work and instead ask questions that might spark a whole other conversation. This way you will be able to bounce off each other!

All these tips are great, but for us awkward people out there... it's not just a switch that we can turn on/off. To some, those tips could sound both intimidating and impossible

but what if you have nothing to talk about???

Smile and physically reach out to others. It goes a longest and it's more heartfelt. Don't be shy, trust me.
