There are so many reasons to love winter. The cooler weather has its fans, who adore winter walks and curling up by the fire. However, some people are overcome with the wish to hibernate. They feel sluggish and depressed, and can't wait for spring. So if the shorter days and lack of sunlight are getting you down, these reasons to love winter will cheer you up …
1. It's Not Hot
One of the top reasons to love winter is that it's not hot! If you don't enjoy the heat of summer - and many people don't - soaring temperatures can be pretty miserable. Winter provides a welcome break from blazing sunshine and nights when it's hard to sleep because of the heat. You don't get sunburn, humidity, insects, sweatiness … and your body doesn't have to be bikini-ready!
2. Hot Chocolate
Hot chocolate really is one of the marvels of winter. Forget the insipid instant version, and treat yourself to a proper hot chocolate made with melted chocolate. It should be so thick that you can stand a spoon up in it. This is one of my winter treats that I always look forward to - on its own it almost makes winter worthwhile!
3. Sofa Sundays
When the weather is miserable or it's too cold to be outside, there's something really comforting about curling up on the sofa. You can enjoy working your way through a favorite boxed set, immerse yourself in a novel, or knit yourself a scarf while watching TV.
4. Cosy Evenings
It isn't all depressing that the night draws in so early - the short days of winter also mean that you can have cosy evenings with your partner. Cuddling up on the sofa under a blanket is a lovely way to spend an evening. Close the curtains, and put on soft lighting.
5. Real Fires
If you're lucky enough to have a real fire, you probably look forward to winter. It's got to be one of the nicest things about the cold weather. Real fires will warm you thoroughly, and they're also really romantic.
6. Snowball Fights
Here's where your inner five-year-old gets to play. Who doesn't love a snowball fight? Just be sure not to aim your ammunition at anyone who isn't participating. And why leave snowmen for the youngsters to make? If you get enough snow, build a friendly snowman for your garden.
Wintry scenes can be very beautiful. Snow on the ground looks absolutely gorgeous when it's pristine white. Even when there isn't any snow, the outlines of trees are stunning - get out your camera and take some photos.
8. Gorgeous Clothes
Another great aspect of winter is that you can get your fabulous winter clothes out. Winter gives you the chance to wear beautiful fake fur, lush velvet, and warming winter woollies. Plus it's a good excuse to get a gorgeous pair of boots.
9. Winter Cuisine
Finally, winter provides an opportunity to make lots of lovely warming dishes. You can make delicious stews, soups, and homemade bread. On Sundays you can cook a tasty roast dinner. Plus there are lots of delicious winter desserts. The bonus is that putting the oven on will keep you warm!
Personally I love the summer, but it's not to everybody's taste. And even if you love summer, you may still enjoy winter for different reasons. So if you can't wait for winter to end, make the most of the time until spring with some of these tips. What is your favorite season, and why?
