Maybe you're trying to decide which college is the best for you. Maybe you're trying to decide which boy is the best for you. Or maybe you're just trying to decide which puppy is the best for you. It doesn't matter what type of decision you're making. The next time that you can't figure out which choice is the right one, you can try doing one of the following things:
Write down all of your options on a sheet of paper. Don't just think about them. Actually write them down, so you have a visual. After you write down your options, you should create a list of good things that will happen if you choose that option and a list of bad things that'll happen if you choose that option. Then you can compare and contrast to see what the most logical thing to do would be.
Daydreaming isn't a bad habit. It's actually a good one. That's why you should take some time to daydream about your choices before you go to bed. Imagine what the most likely scenarios would be if you went with decision A over decision B, and vice versa. It might help you figure out the right answer.
If you're trying to decide whether you want to study business or art, think about the risks of each option and the potential rewards. If you study art, you'll have a harder time finding a job, but you'll be happier in life. If you study business, you'll make a lot of money, but you'll be miserable. Decide which risk you're more willing to take and which reward you want the most.
You shouldn't do what everyone else is pressuring you to do. However, if everyone thinks you should go with a certain choice, ask them why they feel that way. They might bring up points that you've never thought about before.
If you're leaning toward decision A, think of all of the reasons why that would actually be the wrong choice. Come up with as many different things as you can. You're basically going to be holding a debate with yourself. That way, you'll be able to look at the situation logically and won't be blinded by your feelings.
You can't just think about the short-term. Yes, if you put your essay off today, you'll be happier today. But you'll also be more upset tomorrow when you're stuck writing it. Or even worse, you won't write it at all and you'll get a bad grade. You might even fail the class and be forced to retake it. That's why you have to think about the long-term as much as the short-term.
You don't want to ignore your feelings completely. What is your gut telling you? What is your heart telling you? What is your brain telling you? Listen to every part of yourself to try to figure out what you want the most.
You don't want to make the wrong choice. That's why you should think things through before you come to a conclusion. What do you do when you have a big decision to make?
