7 Fun Broadway Songs ...

Broadway is often forgotten when it comes to amazing music, but it really shouldn't be because there are some really fun Broadway songs that can fill your iPod! Broadway has songs for just about anything: working out, feeling sad, falling in love. The list goes on! But here are some of my favorite fun Broadway songs.

1

The Phantom of the Opera from Phantom of the Opera

Okay, you're probably making a funny face and wondering ,"How on earth is that song one of the fun Broadway songs?" True, Phantom is a serious play. Still, I guarantee you there is NOTHING more fun than over-dramatically singing this song with a friend as you paddle across your living room in a big box. Don't ask me how I know that, I just do, okay? Try it, and you'll see for yourself!

2

The All-American Prophet from the Book of Mormon

The Book of Mormon is a show that, quite frankly, satirizes the Mormon religion--and all religion in general. But it does it in a way that's not just crude jokes, it actually makes you take a second and think about what it's saying. Anyway, The All-American Prophet is basically a fun history lesson about the start of the Mormon Church. If you can make it through without chuckling at least once, well then you're stronger than I am.

Show off from the Drowsy Chaperone

I love this song because I always think it's the perfect example of how we women work. In it, the character is a successful starlet and she's saying how she want to quit, but in actuality she's just "showing off" as she performs and she enjoys it. When we women know we're good at something, we don't want to let it go and we're proud of it.

4

Pandemonium from the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

This song is just so fun because it's true! "Life is random and unfair, life is pandemonium!" It's one of things that I sing to my friends when they're complaining that something is unfair. In context of the show, all these kids are in a spelling bee and they're getting hard words while one kid gets really easy ones. That's pretty relatable to me--haven't you ever been given something hard to do, while someone of the same 'rank' as you has been given something ridiculously easy?

5

She's in Love from the Little Mermaid

Yes, the Little Mermaid was made into a Broadway musical! And with it was added a new song about Ariel being in love. If you remember from the movie, Ariel starts acting funny ever since she sees Eric, and now her sisters are noticing. I find this song so fun because it describes anyone who's newly in love! It's really fun to sing to friends that are in new relationships.

Speaking French from Lucky Stiff

I've done this musical before, and this is a number that's an instant crowd favorite. Imagine a beautiful woman dressed in a one piece with lots of feathers singing this song. It's the kind of song that lends itself to just having fun and being sexy if you get up and sing it yourself.

7

A Little Priest from Sweeney Todd

This is the fun Broadway song to take all the rest! How much better can it get than a song about cooking and eating people? Okay, that sounded really weird, but the song itself is hilarious! Sweeney Todd has just killed a man, and Mrs. Lovett is basically saying "Hey, my pie business needs a little lift, why don't we cook him up?" I can never make it through without cracking a smile.

If you're new to Broadway, it does take a while to get used to the song structure and the "talking" feel of the songs. But once you do, it'll become one of your favorite genres to listen to! Did you enjoy any of these songs? Or, if you're a Broadway buff, do you know any songs that should be on this list?
