Chintz - a Perfect Pattern? You Decide!

By Neecey

Well I didn't know that! Chintz is actually the plural of the word chint and it was originally a woodblock printed, painted or stained calico produced in India between 1600 and 1800. Dutch and Portuguese traders took it to Europe - usually in the form of bed linens where it gradually spread to European produced textiles and then onto other items, like pottery, which is known as chintzware. Now we know chintz to mean very florid patterns.

Sorry- keyboard on small iPad stupid. Should be " ceilings" not cringes!

I have the same hat boxes ! I like no. 3 and 23 . Trouble is that it never really looks right in a modern house but lovely in an old cottage or one of our terribly old houses. I was in n a friend's recently and their house was built in late 1600's with very low wood beamed cringes etc and their sofa looked lovely in China.

How much are these hat boxes & how large are they
