7 Best Reasons to Adopt a Pet ...

Thinking of reasons to adopt a pet? We all know there is a lot to think about before bringing home a cuddly animal. Here are seven reasons to adopt a pet that you don’t want to miss!

1 You Could save a Life!

One of the most important and fulfilling reasons to adopt a pet is that you could indeed save a life. Unfortunately, there are many people that give up their pets to shelters, and because shelter space is limited, millions of dogs and cats are euthanized every year. If more people adopted pets from shelters, this number would decrease tremendously. And think about it, not only would you be saving one life of the animal you adopt, but also of another one on the street that is taken into a shelter!

Frequently asked questions

2 They Make Great Companions

Let’s be honest, we all wish we could cuddle with someone, sometimes all the time. The best part about a pet is most of the time, they do too! Pets also make great listeners. Sure they won’t talk back (or understand you) but sometimes all you need is someone to vent to.

3 You Won’t Be Supporting Pet Stores/puppy Mills

Puppies that come from puppy mills are poorly treated and usually their parents are kept in cages without any sort of human companionship. After breeders at the mills make money off of the parent pets, they either kill them or abandon them. The unfortunate thing is, most people don’t know that many pet stores only get puppies from mills and because of this, they are willing to spend thousands of dollars while supporting this terrible industry.

4 Pets Prepare You for Bigger Responsibilities

As much fun as they are, pets are also a lot of work. From changing your kitten’s litter pan to walking your puppy three or four times a day, sometimes it isn’t always easy to keep up. Speaking from experience, growing up with a pet definitely prepared me for living on my own. When you have to take care of something aside from yourself, you tend to manage your time more wisely.

5 They Can Keep You Active

Walking your dog or playing with your cat for just fifteen minutes a day is not only a great way to bond with your pet, but it’s also good for them and for you too! Who needs Zumba when you can go jogging with Fido?

6 They’re a Good Distraction

I recently went through a bad break-up and after the first few weeks of dwelling on my past, I decided that I needed to keep busy. The first thing I did was adopted a kitten and I can honestly say it was the best decision I could have made. My kitten keeps me busy and whenever I feel sad I can just pet him and it instantly makes me happier! Petting a cat or dog has known to be a great stress reliever for a lot of people and even known to lower high-blood pressure!

7 They Just Love You!

There is no better feeling than coming home to a pet that has been waiting for you to get home all day! My kitten knows the sound of my footsteps so he runs to the door when he hears me coming home from school or work. Not only is it adorable but it’s also such a comforting feeling to have a pet to come home to.

There are so many good reasons to adopt a pet. What do you like most about having a pet? What other reasons can you think of to adopt a pet?
