7 Bad Habits to Stop before They Start ...

7 Bad Habits to Stop before They Start ...
By Kelly • Apr 20, 2013

We all have those things we know are bad habits to stop. The little things that we know are bad for us, yet we do them anyway. They can be so hard to stop sometimes, and half the time we don’t even realize we are doing them. Here is a list of some of the bad habits to stop that I have encountered that you shouldn't even start.

1. Biting Your Nails

I am a horrible victim of this one, but I wish I knew that biting my nails was one of the bad habits to stop before they start. My fingernails are always super short and make my already small hands look tiny. A tip to help out with this one, paint your nails. You won’t want to bite your nails if they have pretty nail polish on them. And if you don’t like the look of nail polish, try buying special anti-bite nail polish from your drugstore.

2. Saying “like”

I like hate when, like, people like say "like" too much. See how annoying that can be? This is one of the bad habits to stop before they start because it makes you look somewhat stupid. It is a typical valley girl thing to do and definitely does not help you in the workplace. I know it is hard to stop saying it if it's already a habit, but try to be more conscious of how often you say it.

3. Lying

Sure, you may think a white lie here or there isn’t too bad, but after a while lying may become a habit. If you are known as someone who habitually lies, people may stop trusting your word or confiding in you. They will never know when your white lies end. Make a conscious effort to tell the truth, no matter what. In the end, your friends may thank you for your honesty rather than you telling them what they want to hear.

4. Splitting Your Ends

I have a tendency to sit in class playing with my split ends if I am too bored to pay attention. And while it seems entertaining at the time, I am doing horrible damage to my hair. Every time you split a split end, you are ruining the strand from tip to root. It takes a while to get hair to repair the damage, so it might be a good idea to stop before it starts.

Sunshine and blue skies bring positivity and joy and it's important for every woman to take full advantage of it. Even when stuck indoors, it's still possible to enjoy some good vibes. 5. Staying up Too Late

Staying up too late may seem to come with the territory of being a college student. But no matter how hard it may be, it is one of the bad habits to stop. In order to properly function, your body needs around 7 or 8 hours of a sleep a night. If you are staying up too late every night and waking up for class or work, it is close to impossible to get that amount of sleep every night. Plan your schedule more in advance to make sure you are not swamped with work and forced to make staying up too late a habit.

6. Eating Junk Food

Every once in a while it is okay to snack on junk food, but it is definitely not something you want to become habit. If you continuously eat junk food, not only will you gain weight but you will also feel slower, you will break out, and you might experience stomach pains. Save yourself the trouble and stop the habit of junk food before it starts.

7. Snacking

Trust me, I am all for snacking…but only sometimes. If you are one of those people who snacks when you are bored, having nothing better to do, or any reason besides being hungry, you have gotten yourself into a bad habit. Try to limit your snacking to once or twice a day, and even then, limit the amount of food you snack on. Never eat out of a box and always be conscious about your food choices and amount when snacking.

As hard as it may be, these bad habits are the ones to stop as soon as possible. Do you have these bad habits to stop? What other habits are bad habits to stop? Have you been able to stop these bad habits?

Yea, 'like' is super contagious. There was one person in class that said it constantly, then I noticed everybody else started talking that way.. I couldn't even listen to what they had to say.

I bite my nails, I pick at them with my other nails, and I split them in half. No matter what I do, I can't stop myself, I do it unconsciously or when my hands aren't busy
