7 Baby Animals That Will Make You Go 'Awww'

Who doesn’t love adorable baby animals!? No one, that’s who! That’s why I have come up with 7 adorable baby animals to brighten your day. I’ve tried to find animals that aren’t the standard puppies, kittens and bunnies to give you a whole new realm of adorable-ness! Sit back, relax and get ready to smile.

1 Giraffes

Giraffes are such adorable baby animals - their legs are far too long for their bodies, their heads are so out of proportion and their eyes are so huge! Baby giraffes, called calves, learn to walk and run within an hour of being born, though they’re obviously still gorgeously wobbly and oh so sweet! Generally only one calf is born, though it is possible to get twins!

Frequently asked questions

2 Hippos

Hippos are some of the world’s most dangerous animals, but when you look at their babies you would never know it! They look so chubby and permanently have a lovely little smile on their faces. Baby hippos’ legs are so short that they can’t move overly quickly, but just wait until they grow up and can outrun a human!

3 Armadillos

When an armadillo gives birth, they have quadruplets, all of the same sex. That means four times the cuteness! Armadillos sleep for a long time - about 18.5 hours a day - and roll up into a ball if they get stressed, so they’re basically just a roly-poly ball of gorgeous. That sounds pretty great to me.

4 Echidnas

Living in Australia, I am very pleased to say that seeing echidnas is not a rare occurrence. They like to hang out in quiet places with lots of cozy bushes and trees, and they give birth to tiny, tiny babies. These babies grow super quickly and are referred to as ‘puggles.’ Puggles are bald when they’re born, then grow hair and spines quickly before they leave the pouch.

5 Anteaters

Anteaters are born covered with hair, and they basically just look like miniature versions of their grown-up selves! This helps the baby to be camouflaged against its mother when it rides around on her back, which it does for about a year. Each anteater female only gives birth to one baby, and this baby stays with her until it’s about two years old.

6 Penguins

Let’s face it, baby penguins are just tiny, adorable balls of fluff. They waddle when they run and they make the sweetest little cheeping noises! A penguin generally lays one or two eggs, and when the eggs hatch, the babies have entirely grey feathers which change as the penguin grows older. When hatched, the babies will immediately start chirping in order to get their parents used to the sound of their voice. Awww!

7 Otters

We all know how adorable otters are, and otter babies are even more so. Otter babies, or pups, are looked after by their mums, dads and older siblings after they’re born, so raising them is definitely a team effort. The pups know how to swim after about two months and live with their families for about a year. Sweet!

I really hope looking at all of these adorable baby animals has made you smile, just as much as they made me smile researching them! Puppies and kittens are adorable, but sometimes the most unconventional animals can have the most gorgeous offspring! Which baby animal do you think is the cutest?
