Are you looking for ways to celebrate the New Year at home? The New Year’s Eve celebration is a global occasion, and it’s no lie that most people choose to party the last 365 days away. Whether it’s a fun night out full of dance, or dinner at a fancy restaurant, the truth is it’s most common to celebrate the New Year outside your home. But there are many different reasons why someone would choose to spend this date within the walls of their house. Maybe your financial situation doesn’t allow you to cover the costs that come with going out, maybe you’re away from family and there isn’t really anyone to actually go out with, etc. Well, I myself have had my share of stay-in New Year’s Eves and I’m here to tell you there’s nothing to worry about, and it’s definitely still possible to celebrate. So why don’t we go ahead and look at some alternatives for when there’s just no plans to step out the door? Here are the best ways to celebrate the New Year at home.
1. Play Board Games with Your Loved Ones
One of the very best ways to celebrate the New Year at home is with your favorite games. If you’re lucky enough to be spending the New Year with your family or friends, it really doesn’t matter where you are as long as you’re all having a good time. And I don’t know about you, but board games always give me just that. I remember one NYE my parents and I pulled out our brand new Scene It and just played nonstop for the whole night. I had the time of my life! Just make sure it’s a game that everyone involved can enjoy, grab some snacks, and you’re all set.
2. Watch the Ball Drop on TV
Just because you’re staying home for NYE doesn’t mean you can’t join the fun with thousands of others. That’s right, the magic of television allows us to be part of celebrations all over the world, including the most iconic one - The Times Square New Years Eve Ball Drop. It’s my dream to one day be there in person, but for now, I do make sure to tune in to the livestream every time I spend it at home. It works perfectly because I’m in the same time zone as New York City, so I can count down with them in real time. But even if you’re not in the same time zone, you can always record it if you’re behind, or tune in to any other televised celebration that might be happening closer to you if you’re ahead. But do remember to have your own glass of champagne ready so you can toast with the hosts!
3. Bring the Party to You
So you’re 100% set on partying for NYE. Why not just throw the party yourself? All you have to do is invite some friends and family over, play some nice music, and have some food. You could even ask the guests to bring whatever they’d like to eat or drink themselves to lower the cost. Then when it’s time to celebrate the New Year, have everyone look out the window and you’re sure to get a free fireworks show. What else do you need?
4. Have a Well Deserved Chill Session
Who says celebrating means dancing, loud music, and crowds? Truth is, everyone has their own way of celebrating things and if you’re just not into any of the above, that’s completely fine. New Year’s Eve is the perfect time to enjoy some time alone if you so wish, as everyone else will be busy with their own celebrations. You can lie down with a glass of wine and put on your favorite show or movie, with the knowledge that no one will interrupt you. Even the smallest, simplest thing counts, as long as you’re enjoying it.
No matter what you do or where you go, I hope you end 2017 with a smile on your face. Happy New Year, dear reader!
