1 Final Fantasy 15
Once known as Final Fantasy Versus 13, the release of this game has been anticipated for seven years (ever since the introduction of the PS3), marking its place as one of the most popular upcoming video games. Now moving onto the next generation of the PS4 and Xbox One in 2014, this game not only has impressive graphics but features a new battle system for the FF series that is action-oriented and focuses on real time. This truly seems like the comeback of the FF series!
Frequently asked questions
2 Project X Zone
Released on June 25th, 2013 (Nintendo 3DS), Project X Zone features an amazingly fast-paced combat battle system. This game boasts a huge list of characters old and new, such as Megaman, Zero, Ryu, Ken, and Jin (Tekken). This collaboration between the three legendary game companies Sega, Namco Bandai and Capcom will be sure to grab your attention. It also doesn't hurt that the previews show instances of funny commentary/interaction between each character!
3 Super Smash Bros
This will be the fourth entry in the Smash Bros series and the first Smash game to be on Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U. I am completely stoked over the inclusion of veteran fighters Mario, Link, Kirby, Donkey Kong, and Samus. This game also returns with new characters such as the villager from Animal Crossing and the Wii Fit trainer. The thought of faster gameplay alone makes it one of my own highly anticipated games for next year.
4 Pikmin 3
After a nearly ten year wait since Pikmin 2 premiered on the Nintendo Gamecube, Pikmin 3 continues as a massive action strategy game where players will experience a beautiful world filled with strange creatures that they will be able to command. Being released on the Nintendo Wii U on August 4th, 2013, this game strategically includes challenging modes for additional re-playability and an exquisite environment to look at.
5 Mario Kart 8
Expected to arrive in the 2014 season, the eighth series in Mario Kart returns for Nintendo Wii U. This will be one of the first games in high definition, armed with beautiful visuals. A new feature that's also being introduced is anti-gravity, allowing players to race on walls or ceilings. With the race circuit design stages and the option to play competitively online, it won't be hard to fall in love with this game.
6 The Last of Us
Released on the PS3 on June 14th, 2013, this story takes place 20 years after the U.S has been taken over by a fungus mutation, leaving the entire population infected (and turning into zombies). You play as Joel, who does any and everything to survive, and Ellie; Joel takes her on a journey and makes it his mission to protect her at the same time. It's a third person shooter, stealth and survival game with amazing voice acting and realistic graphics. There's even an option to turn off violence if gore isn't your field!
7 Naruto Shippuden Storm 3 Full Burst
The anticipated release date for this is December 24 2013 (PS3/Xbox). An expansion DLC pack to Storm 3, 'Full Burst' boasts the best CG animation that I've ever seen in an Anime game; it even looks better than the original anime! Some of the improvements include 38 DLC costumes, 100 new missions, a new battle event for story mode, and new character Sage Kabuto. The best part about this is that all of the original features and characters are included – Madara Uchiha, anyone?
8 Beyond: Two Souls
This movie-like game features actress Ellen Page as Jodie Holmes, a young woman that gets her powers from a psychic link. You'll be able to create your own experience for Jodie as you are in full control of her actions, which will ultimately decide her fate and the most intense moments of her life. It is set to be released on October 8th, 2013 (PS3).
9 Kingdom Hearts 3
Another one of the most highly anticipated games from Square Enix comes the true 'threequel' of the Kingdom Heart series (PS4, Xbox One). With a story that's become exceedingly complex, this might spell the end of the adventures of the lead character Sora. Although still in the early development stages (set for release in 2014), this Disney and Square Enix collaboration will include faster gameplay, stunning visuals, and new worlds. Am I the only one hoping that the rumors of Star Wars and Toy Story being incorporated are true?
