With some many news stories breaking every day, you might find that the unconventional ways to get the news are more effective than sitting down for the 10 o’clock news each night. What I love so much about these unconventional ways are that you have the option to get the news that you want to hear about. And these unconventional ways let you get more information than a 40 second news clip about a story. So here are the some of the best unconventional ways to get the news.
Of all of the unconventional ways to get the news, this is probably the easiest. All you need is to have a Twitter account and to follow the major news outlets. CNN, FOX News, MSNBC and more all have twitter accounts. It makes it super easy for you to just scroll through your feed and find the latest stories from all around the world. And because you select which accounts to follow, you can tailor the content to what you want to hear about.
Believe it or not, some of your friends might know what is going on around the world. Strike up a conversation about local, national, or world news with your friends and you might be surprised about how knowledgeable they are. And once you find your go-to friend for news, you can make sure they keep you in the loop about recent updates.
3. Satire Shows
I personally love shows like The Colbert Report and The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. They are hilarious and one of my favorite unconventional ways to get the news. It is like watching a regular news show, but with tons of laughs added in. They might not be as informative as the other options, but they are definitely one of the most fun ways to get the news.
You know what a radio is. That old thing in your car that you may or may not still use to listen to music. Well it is good for more than just road trip dance parties. Radio stations, usually on the AM frequency, are a great source of news. NPR keeps you updated on the latest stories all day long. So if you have a long commute to work in your car, why not turn off the music and turn on the news to get some quick updates on your way to work?
Just like Twitter, Facebook is a great social media outlet to keep up to date on the news. Either your friends might post about breaking stories, or you can “like” news outlets for a more official update. Just by scrolling your News Feed, you can get informed of stories from your local area or from across the world.
6. Get an App
In this day and age, there is an app for everything. If you are a fan of a particular news source like The New York Times or MSNBC, get their app. You will have tons of stories, all of the time, in the palm of your hand. It makes getting news updates more convenient than ever.
If you would rather get the full story behind an event or issue, try reading a book about it. Tons of politicians, historians, and basically anyone involved in anything, write books about their involvement in events. If you are curious about the US involvement in the Middle East, there are books on that. If you like to learn more about our economic crisis, there are books on that. No matter what your interest is, you can learn tons more than just an article in a newspaper by reading a book.
In today’s small world, getting the new is more important than ever. A small story across the world can have a huge impact in your local area. But it is understandable that you don’t have the time to sit down and read a newspaper or watch the news every night. These unconventional ways to get the news let you get the news on your own terms. What did you think about these unconventional ways to get the news? What other ways do you get your news?
