Pinterest can be addicting. Many people sit down to surf Pinterest for just a few minutes, only to look up and discover that two to three hours have gone by. It is best to use Pinterest as a resource rather than just a time filler. It can quickly become another social media problem if you are not careful. Monitor yourself so that you do not end up spending hours on the site with nothing to show for it.

5. Pin, Don’t Just Repin

I am just going to admit this even if it does show my lack of technological knowledge. For a long time, I did not know how to pin things, only how to repin them. The difference is this: when you pin things, you are pulling them from other websites all over the web to pin on your boards. Repinning is when you pin things that are already on Pinterest. Both are good ways to pin but you are missing out on a lot if you never use the pin from other sites option.

6. Share Pins

You can share pins, too. It is a fun and thoughtful thing to do. You can send a comical little pin that is really a joke to your best friend or you can send something very useful to your mom. What you are doing when you share pins is that you are letting someone know that you found a pin they might appreciate in some way. This can be very helpful and you will love when you get pins sent to you in return.

7. Think before You Pin

We are all guilty of pinning and repinning too quickly. Try to stop and take a moment to think before you pin something. Are you really going to use it? Or are you just intrigued by it? Taking time to think about this before you pin will prevent you from having to wade through and clean up cluttered boards later.
