1

Make Sure You Set a Goal

Finding your career calling has to start with a goal. Remember, you are doing this for yourself so make sure to set your own goals. If you know what you want to do, but don’t know how to achieve it, give yourself 5 years to get there. Make sure you do whatever it is you need to do to achieve that goal, and work hard.

2

Make Mistakes

This is a healthy thing to do while growing up and making big decisions. A lot of us don’t know at a young age what we want to do right away, so doing those ‘bad’ jobs needs to happen to make your mind clear about what you want.

3

Listen to Your Gut

Just because everyone around you is getting 9-5 jobs, doesn’t mean that is what you want. Sure, it may be secure, but if you hate it, it’s not worth it. Listen to yourself and what YOU want, and then make it happen.

4

Be Open Minded

If you want to become something that is hard to get into, you need to realize and come to terms with that. If that is completing an internship for a couple of months, then you’ll have to do so. Go into this search open minded and ready for whatever path your dream career takes you on.

5

Find out What You Want Right Now

Think about where you want to be right now in your life and what you want to achieve at this moment. It may be different than what you will want in 5 or more years, so make sure your goals are current. Of course you want to be slowly working towards where you want to end up.

What Makes You Happy?

This is also a right now question. Ask yourself what really makes you happy, and try to narrow it down to a career path. If you say writing makes you happy, then try some freelance work to make sure it’s really what you love. Ease into the decision slowly as you need to make sure it really is something that you want to commit to.

What is My Definition of Success?

Everyone’s definition of success is very different – some think being happy is a success, while others want to make a certain amount of money before they can call it success. Whatever yours may be, make sure you define that to yourself before embarking on this journey.

All of these points will only help if you truly want to start your career in life. This can be one of the hardest decisions you need to make, and can often change. There is nothing wrong with that! Even if you already went to school and want to change your path, don’t be nervous. You’ll be happier in the long run. What is your best tip to help readers find their career path?
