There are many things you should replace often in your life. Many things should be replaced for your safety and/or health, but are often overlooked because they're minuscule or costly. However, it’s important to take care of yourself and your environment to live a healthier lifestyle. Here are a few of the many things you should replace often in your life.
1 Mascara
I’ll tell you why mascara is one of the things you should replace often. Did you know that there are microscopic worms that live in and around the follicles of your eyelashes? I’ll give you a minute to visualize that and gag at the thought. Why is it important to know this? These “worms” can secrete “juices” that can actually impair your vision. In addition they can loosen the eyelashes from their follicle and cause them to fall out. Hence, it’s important to change your mascara often, even if the mascara bottle isn’t empty yet, because the wand traps its own bacteria. The bacteria from your wand plus the bacteria in your eyelashes can increase the chances of you getting these unwelcome worms or speed up their reproduction rate.
Frequently asked questions
2 Face Wash
Unfortunately, bacteria live on the face (and everything else) as well. Face wash does a decent job at removing most of the bacteria on your face. However, just like us animals, bacteria can mutate, thus becoming immune to your face wash and its ability to fight bacteria. That’s why it’s important to switch up your face wash every 4-6 months to keep the bacteria on your face to a minimum.
3 Bed Sheets
Regardless of how much hot water and soap you wash your bed sheets and pillow cases with, there will always be residual bacteria left over. In the world, there are bacteria who live in the hottest, most unbearable conditions as well as bacteria who live in the coldest of tundra and still survive – so, sorry to break it to you but your lukewarm water and laundry detergent aren’t much of a threat to the bacteria living on your sheets. Therefore, it’s important to replace, not just change, your bed coverings to eliminate the buildup of stubborn bacteria.
4 Towels
What’s something that gets wet while it dries? Towels! Towels spend a good chunk of their lives wet or moist, which makes them the perfect breeding ground for bacteria! Just like bed sheets, towels still harbour bacteria even after they are washed in the laundry.
5 Underwear
Who cares if no one sees your underwear? That’s no excuse to wear underwear that’s in less than good condition! Personally, I don’t feel completely comfortable until I’m wearing clean, fresh undergarments. Underwear is cheap and can be purchased almost anywhere, so there is never an excuse to be rocking two year old underwear.
6 Baking Soda
Baking soda is the unsung hero of the refrigerator. Without good ol’ baking soda, your refrigerator would probably start to smell like garbage... literally. In case you don’t know the science behind baking soda and its purpose in the fridge, baking soda absorbs odours released from foods as they age! However, baking soda needs to be replaced every 30 to 90 days to ensure that your food will continue to taste as fresh as possible.
7 Makeup Brushes
Makeup brushes harbour bacteria so they must be replaced often. However, if you have invested a great deal of money for a quality brush set, you can avoid replacing them by using makeup brush cleaners. With that being said, if you’re not willing to replace your makeup brushes then make sure to replace your makeup brush cleaning solution often. Mentioned earlier, bacteria can mutate and become immune to bacteria fighting properties, so change up your solution regularly to get rid of as much bacteria as possible.
There are many more things in life that should be replaced like car tires, mattresses, etc... Next time you have free time, do a complete cleanse of your home and garage to get rid of things you’ve had for far too long. Your home and life will feel less clogged. What are other things that should be replaced on a more frequent basis?
