Our Earth is a precious place and it’s up to us preserve its resources and beauty by choosing different methods or ways to be more eco-friendly that aren’t in the least bit hard to integrate into daily life! With the ever-changing world it’s important to understand how little changes you make can pave the way for a better, more efficient world. Here’s a few suggestions on ways to be more eco-friendly that I found that anyone can add into their busy schedules!
1. Use Less Water
Some people think that water is an unlimited resource. But, that’s not necessarily true. While the Earth has a large amount of water, in order to ensure that there will be more than enough hundreds of years down the line, we must learn to treat our supply with care. It’s as simple as taking shorter showers than usual, or turning the tap off when you’re brushing your teeth or washing a dish and turning it on to rinse afterwards. Those minor changes are great ways to be more eco-friendly in a big way!
I’m sure everyone knows that it is essential to recycle, but there’s no harm in a little reiteration! Recycling is important because it reduces the amount of trash that rests in landfills or incinerators which are harmful to the environment due to the amount of unnecessary waste and contamination! Plus, recycling leads to the use of less energy by manufacturers because they can use the raw materials from what you recycle!
If you’re going to the grocery store and packing your goods into plastic bags, you’re doing it all wrong! Reusable bags made of biodegradable/recyclable materials are a great way to use less plastic. Plastic bags are really bad for the environment. Also, you’ll get a discount at some stores for reusing too! Aside from bags, there are plenty of household items you can reuse for different purposes, like maybe using an old coffee tin to store office supplies like pens, pencils, paper clips etc.-- there are so many possibilities! Sounds like a DIY project waiting to happen!
4. Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
If you read the ingredients on the back of widely-used commercialized brand cleaning products, you’d be surprised at the amount of harmful chemicals listed that you might not even recognize. These old formulas were created back when they weren’t quite sure of the effects of the chemicals on the Earth or our bodies. Now, that there are cleaner, healthier and environmentally friendly products with more natural ingredients, it’s easy to be more eco-friendly for you
Freecycle.org is an awesome website that helps people get rid of the stuff that they might not want to people who may have some use for it ! You’ll put my reuse point I mentioned earlier to good use for sure!
6. Switch to LED Lights
Though LED light bulbs (Light-emitting diode) can be a bit on the pricy side, if you have the funds, it is well worth the money! LEDs have a very long life span of 40-50 years! It’s also environmentally friendly since they don’t contain Mercury, as well as being energy-efficient!
7. Paperless Bills
Unless you need to keep all those papers for special records or for business, there’s no need to receive them every month! Most bills have some online setup that could give your information with the click of a button, which can then be sent to your email! How easy is that? Just think of all the trees you’ll save!
8. Refillable Containers
If you don’t already have a portable thermos, tumbler or travel mug, now is a great time to invest in one! Not only could you use it to refill your water or carry your coffee, but you’ll be saving tons of money and using less products that are not eco-friendly like plastic or styrofoam! Make sure the cups are BPA free so that you can avoid any harmful chemicals!
9. Take the Stairs
Elevators consume so much energy and output a plethora of harsh chemicals into the environment. Do yourself, and others around you a favor and take the stairs! You’ll be actively changing yourself to be more eco-friendly while getting fit in the process! Not a bad plan huh?
Even if you just take one of these ideas and add them into your daily routine you’re already on your way to becoming more eco-friendly! As I said before, it’s important to keep this Earth healthy and even these super simple ways to be more eco-friendly means you are playing a role in helping in a big way! Is there any way you try to be eco-friendly?
