7 Super Cool Things to do with Coconut Oil ...

By Fawn16 Comments

Coconut oil is the latest and greatest thing and there are so many things to do with coconut oil. I personally swear by it and have at least 3 jars of it in my house at all times (one in the bathroom, one in my bedroom and one in my kitchen.) There are so many things to do with coconut oil that it's actually hard to narrow it down to just 7 but, these are the 7 super cool things you can do with coconut oil.

1 Oil Pulling

This is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Take a spoon full of coconut oil (when it's still hard) and put it in your mouth. Then, let it melt by swishing it for about 10 minutes (I know it feels a little funny before it melts and 10 minutes is pretty hard so start slow with 2 minutes and work your way up.) Spit and look at all the nastiness you see in the oil. It's great for your teeth and it shrinks (as in tighten) your gum pockets. I've been oil pulling for a few months now and my mouth has never felt better. This is one of the best things to do with coconut oil, and it really helps!

Frequently asked questions

2 Baking Soda and Coconut Oil Face Scrub

All you need is equal parts baking soda and coconut oil. I just take a tablespoon of each (the coconut oil shouldn't be melted.) Then. I put the coconut oil on my hand and add the baking soda. Rub them together and rub your face and neck. After about 2 minutes of rubbing it in small circles, remove excess baking soda with a warm wash cloth (there shouldn't be too much water on the washcloth.) The baking soda will clean your face while the coconut oil fights bacteria and moisturizes. It's amazing!

3 Lip Balm

This is the easiest thing to do with coconut oil. Just take a little on your finger and rub it on your lips. The coconut oil moisturizes your lips AND it's SPF 4. Plus, you won't feel bad if you lick your lips a little when it's on!

4 Moisturizer

Once again, it's super easy. All you have to do is rub a little anywhere you need some moisturizer. At first your skin will look a little bit greasy but after about 5 minutes it will soak in and you will have a nice little glow!

5 Sugar Scrub

Equal parts sugar and coconut oil make an excellent body scrub. I usually put a little coconut oil in my hand (unmelted of course) and then pour some sugar on top and rub it all over my legs, arms or any spot that needs a little exfoliating. Use soap and water to rinse it off and rub coconut oil over the spot that you scrubbed. Your skin will feel so soft!

6 Salt Foot Scrub

Equal parts coarse sea salt and coconut oil rubbed on your feet will take away all of that yucky dead skin that seems to proliferate in the summer. I absolutely hate when my feet feel gross. So, I take the coconut oil (raw and unmelted) and coarse sea salt and rub it onto the soles of my feet. Rinse your feet and feel how soft they are! It's like an at-home mini pedicure!

7 Season Cast Iron

I love my cast iron skillet but I hate when I use oil in it and get that weird film that comes from using other oils to season it. Cast iron can last a lifetime when seasoned properly so make sure that you take some coconut oil and melt it. Then, take a sheet of wax paper and dip it into the oil. Then, rub the wax paper on the inside and outside of the pan (you don't cook on the outside but it does rust so adding oil helps prevent that.) Then, bake your cast iron skillet at 350 for about an hour. Let it cool for 30 minutes and you will have a beautifully seasoned cast iron skillet or pan!

Well ladies, these are my favorite things to do with coconut oil. What do you use coconut oil for? Let me know down below!
