If you're like me, you're looking for Star Wars costume ideas for women every single Halloween. Even though I’m turning fifty this year I still have not lost my childhood enthusiasm, by any means, especially when it comes to Halloween. I still love this fun, scary, pumpkin filled holiday and I still love getting dressed up. I remember I lost some of my luster for it in my teens, but then once I had children again and got to dress them up and go trick or treating, I actually made the excuse that I needed to wear a costume too because that meant we got extra candy, and sometimes I think it did actually work. Come on now mommies, you know your sneaking that mini Snickers bar out of your child’s bag as soon as you told them they have had enough for the night.
Anyway, now I’m empty nesting, and I haven’t dressed up in awhile but I would like to this year so I decided to do some research on what costumes are trending these days. That’s when I realized dressing up as an adult for Halloween can be like entering a time zone. I saw a lot of the same costumes trending in 2017 that were trending in 1977 when I was 10 and that is largely because the top costumes trending this year are all related to the new Star Wars movie, "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," which being released December 15th. In 1977, the 1st of several Star Wars movies was released and that year I think every ten year old friend of mine dressed up like one of the many characters and then when they released the prequel in 1999 and 2005, when my kids were 10 or so, they actually wore the same costumes as my ten year old friends did in 1977. Now hear in 2017, forty and twenty years later, my options have not changed much, but the look of the costumes sure have. That's why I'm happy to be on the hunt for Star Wars costume ideas for women.
That said, I was happy to see I can still be Princess Leia forty years late, but the costume definitely doesn’t look anything like the version of the past, nor does this year’s older version of Luke Skywalker, but none of us look the same as we did back then, so why would the character costumes of Star Wars? I do like the adult female Bolero’s they have out for women in the different Star Wars character options. You can get one in Darth Vadar, Chewbacca, or Princess Leia. Forty years ago you could have not gotten female versions of anything but Princess Leia since she was the only female in the movie. That said, it is refreshing to see that in 2017 women have more options that fit their bodies in the Star Wars category.
Other popular non-Star Wars costumes for 2017 include Wonder Woman or Super Girl, Belle, and then believe it or not, just basically dressing up from any past era from the 50s, 60s, 70s. Cleopatra is being listed as the #1 costume on a few sites. This simply could mean just digging in our closets for some of us, based on our age, to come up with something from one of these eras. Ok yes, that may make you feel old if you do have something to pull it together, but please remember, age is just a number. Trust me there is nothing old about you if you are reading this article looking for trending Halloween costumes to wear this year. You are old when you decide Halloween isn't worth reading about anymore. Plus coming up with something from home saves a few bucks, which means a little more money for you to spend on the Halloween festivities themselves.
So have fun shopping for that perfect 2017 costume and remember, not much has changed, so don't go on a long search for something unique because if you still want to be Dorothy or just a Sexy Witch, those are out there, they work too and are still well loved. Halloween never gets old, nor do the costumes, nor do you!
