1

Find a Mechanic You Can Trust

This is very important in not getting ripped off. If you can find a shop you feel comfortable at, half of your job is done. Knowing when you walk in that the mechanics are honest is a very comforting feeling. Cars aren’t cheap and saving money where you can is important! Make sure you find a mechanic you trust!

2

Talk to a Family Member or Friend Who Knows about Cars…

I am blessed to have family and friends who know things about cars. I know absolutely nothing my knowledge starts at the color and stops at whether or not the air conditioning works. It helps if you can have someone look first and give you and idea of what you’re dealing with. That way you go into the shop with a bit of background knowledge.

3

Do Some of Your Own Research

Girls we live in the age of the Internet, it is all at our fingertips. If you notice something going wrong with your car, look up what you’ve been experiencing. There are tons of websites dedicated to car problems and they legitimately have everything you can thing of. Someone somewhere has had the same problems as you; it’s just a matter of finding it and reading up a bit, in the long run it will help you from getting ripped off.

4

Be Confident!

If you walk into the shop with your head held high you and you exude confidence, most people aren’t going to mess with you. Don’t let the mechanics make you feel inferior, keep a poised manner and seem like you don’t even sweat it.

5

Keep Your Emotions to a Minimum

One great way to keep from getting ripped off is to control your emotions. If the mechanic comes up and starts listing off problems, keep calm. Listen to what they say and most importantly before you give them permission to do what they say they’re going to, call someone who knows a bit about cars and see what they have to say.

Listen!

Listening to what the mechanics say is absolutely key! They are very good at what they do; I mean they do it for a living. More times than not mechanics will effortlessly rattle off what’s wrong with your car, so you need to pay close attention to everything they’re telling you. Listening intently can make all the difference!

7

Ask Questions

I think it’s fair to say we’re not car experts, that is why it’s critical to ask questions. As I said before these people are amazing at what they do, and they’d be more than happy to answer any questions you have. Make sure you completely understand what they’re saying to you, even if it requires multiple explanations. A well-informed woman most certainly does not get ripped off.

Now listen, I am not saying that mechanics are these villains, they are very nice people. Unfortunately, even the nice ones can take advantage of a girl who is lacking in the car knowledge. Use these steps when fixing up your chariot. Good luck! Do any of you have advice on the topic?
