1

Banish Negative Voices

Have you ever really stopped to listen to your inner voice? The one in your head that is often negative, putting you down and making you feel bad? Think of the way you speak to your friends – if they’re sad or insecure, you bolster them with compliments and reassurance, and this is what the voice in your head should do for you. Be aware of your own negative thoughts – whether you’re thinking that you’re fat, ugly, stupid or something else unpleasant, being aware of your own negativity is one of the steps to boost your self-esteem that is the most important. Work to replace negative voices with positive ones – tell yourself you look beautiful today, mentally praise yourself for doing well at work, or stick post it notes to your mirror, PC or anywhere else in your home with compliments for yourself. It might sound silly, but you’ll soon start to love yourself more.

2

Make an Effort with Your Appearance

I’m not saying you need to leave the house with a full face of makeup each morning – far from it, but everyone knows that they usually feel better when they’ve made an effort. The simple act of showering and having fresh, clean hair, and wearing an outfit you love can make you feel more confident and beautiful, which can help to lift your self-esteem. By taking a few little steps to look good every day, you can feel better about yourself and have more confidence as a result – this definitely works for me!

3

Learn a New Skill

Learning something new is a great way to boost your self-worth. Whether it’s taking a photography class, learning a new language or finally mastering crochet, you’ll meet new people, learn something new and have a fantastic time! The sense of discovery and achievement will help you to feel more confident and comfortable in your own skin.

4

Focus on Your Surroundings, Not Yourself

By worrying less about what others think about you and focusing more on your life and what’s going on around you, you can start to feel more confident. As a person who suffers from low self-esteem, I know it sometimes feels as if everyone is looking at you and judging you. Believe me, that’s not true! Most people are too wrapped up in worrying about themselves or their own problems to even give you a second glance, and by spending more time in the moment enjoying yourself and less time focusing on your inner thoughts, you’ll slowly start to feel better.

5

Talk to Someone

Talking to someone about your low self-esteem is a great way to start to overcome your problems, and you can do it today! Choose a trusted friend or family member, or book a session with a counselor if you would rather talk to someone impartial. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss your issues, and receive helpful advice and exercises which will assist you in overcoming your low self-esteem.

Famous Quotes

Love is like a friendship caught on fire. In the beginning a flame, very pretty, often hot and fierce, but still only light and flickering. As love grows older, our hearts mature and our love becomes as coals, deep-burning and unquenchable.

Take Small Steps

Sometimes, people with low self-esteem can shy away from social situations and turn down invitations to events. It’s important to realize that you’re missing out on life and letting your low self-esteem get the better of you, and this can’t carry on! Take small steps today to begin feeling more confident around other people – perhaps accept an invitation to go to the movies with friends or attend that party next weekend. Small steps today could make big improvements to your self-confidence and happiness tomorrow.

7

Practice Positive Thinking

Meditation, positive visualization and relaxation are a powerful combination which can help you to feel more in control of your life. Taking a few minutes out of each day to visualize the way you would like your life to be, or simply to sit and meditate, clearing your mind of all thoughts, can help you to feel more centered and lift your mood.

8

Surround Yourself with Those You Love

Spending time with positive, happy people will help you to feel better about yourself. Instead of sitting at home staring at your computer screen, get out and spend time with a friend! Go for a coffee, to the movies, or to your family’s house for Sunday dinner. Laugh, have fun and enjoy your life. Loving others and being loved does wonders for your sense of self-worth!

9

Eat Well

Eating well and exercising regularly will not only help you to feel fitter and more confident, it will also ensure that you are healthier and happier! By eating plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, rather than snacking constantly on crisps and chocolate, you’ll ensure your body is getting all the right vitamins and minerals to look beautiful and boost your mood, so you’ll feel ready for whatever the world throws at you!

There are plenty of other steps you can take to boost your self-esteem, but these are some of the things that have worked for me. Of course, everyone still has days where they don’t feel on top of the world, but hopefully some of these steps will help you to feel more confident and better about yourself – remember you’re unique, and what could be more amazing and beautiful than that?
