I think that women, or men, in fact, have to even think about learning and knowing self defence is a really sad indictment of society and culture as a whole, but if you are anything like me, then you would rather face a sad truth and be prepared than stick your head in the sand and be left vulnerable! Hopefully, you never have to use self defence in your life, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t learn the ropes! Here are 10 self defence tricks every woman should know.
1 Busy Roads
If you are planning on going out at a time when you don’t feel as safe as you want to, then it's sensible to take a route that involves busy roads instead of back alleys and quiet streets.
2 TIre Kit
The last thing you want to have to deal with is getting a flat tire in the middle of nowhere where you might feel unsafe or uncomfortable. The best fix is to always keep a tire repair kit in the boot of your car so that you are ready to sort it out whenever you need to.
If you end up in a situation where someone is getting in your personal space and trying to touch and move you, the best thing to do first off is just push them as hard as you can and yell as loud as you can. A lot of attackers rely on scared silence, so do as much as you can to get attention from anyone nearby.
4 Palm Attack
It’s an oldie but a goodie. If your attacker is in front of you and moving forward, take the heel of your palm and shove it as hard as you can into his nose area. This will hopefully stun him, cause some bleeding, and give you the chance to get away.
You probably carry a set of keys around everywhere you go, which means that you have a great self defence weapon waiting and ready to go! If you are feeling unsafe, you can walk with your hand in your bag, with your set balled in your fist, each spikey key picking through your fingers like a knuckle duster.
6 Wrist Hold Escape
It is worth learning how to do a really effective wrist hold escape. Rather than just pulling backward whilst still in his grip, it can work to squat down, lean forward and then quickly bend your elbow all the way towards the attack until the angle means that they can no longer hold your wrist.
7 Car Kit
Make up a bag of essentials and put it in your car in case you should find yourself out in the middle of nowhere with a vehicle problem. It should include things like snacks, first aid kit, jump cables, a torch, a power bank, rope, matches ... everything to get you through an unplanned night.
Your elbow is one of the sturdiest weapons that your body naturally has, so if an attacker has you by the arms, don’t worry about not being able to use your fists. Swipe that elbow up towards the face at force for an effective smash.
9 Pepper Spray
You don’t always have to use your own body to defend yourself. A can of pepper spray in your handbag or purse can be more than effective!
10 Phone for Help
When your car breaks down, ring a friend or family member straight away to tell them about the situation, follow that up with ringing a breakdown service, and then you can have the peace of mind that your loved ones know where you are as well as an external business.
