7 Reasons to Look Forward to Spring ...

I don’t know about you, but it’s mid-March and the winter doldrums have long overstayed their welcome; but, I can feel a hint of warmth in the air, which gets me to thinking about all of the reasons to look forward to spring. Despite the fact that my birthday is in the spring (which is reason enough to love the season, right?) it truly is my favorite, and there are probably about a million reasons why. Here are just some of the reasons to look forward to spring.

1 Longer Days

One of the biggest reasons to look forward to spring is the longer days. Those long days of what seems like perpetual darkness really start to take a toll on my personality. I love the sunlight and when the spring approaches, the sunlight starts sticking around longer. There’s nothing better than days filled with brilliant sunshine.

Frequently asked questions

2 Warmer Weather

Perhaps my second favorite thing about spring is the warmer weather. If there’s one thing I need as much as I need sunshine, it’s warm weather. I love feeling that touch of spring in the air with a noticeable increase in the mercury and a warmer wind blowing. Bliss.

3 Shedding Layers

There is only so much I can take getting all bundled up to go outside. Sweaters, boots, jackets, scarves, hats, gloves... enough! And, now that I am a mom, not only do I have to bundle myself up, but I also have to bundle up my little guy. In the spring, I love throwing on a tank, a skirt and a pair of flip flops and letting my son walk around barefoot outside, if he wants.

***

The layers upon layers needed during winter can become a confining hassle over time. Spring's permission slip to drench ourselves in sunlight sans the heavy armor of winter wear is downright liberating. The ease of slipping into a breezy blouse and sandals while my little one revels in the carefree comfort of shorts and a t-shirt mirrors the uncomplicated joy that the season brings. It's as if the shedding of fabric layers also peels away a layer of stress, leaving us lighter and more ready to embrace the fresh warmth.

4 Let There Be Life!

I love seeing the first buds pop on the trees and seeing the sleeping bulbs of daffodils and tulips awaken after a long winter nap. I love going to my garden supply store and choosing which flowers to plant for the year. I love seeing all of the birds flying back and seeing all of the baby animals being born. Spring = life, and that’s just another reason to look forward to it.

5 Barbecues

Despite the fact that we barbecue all year, it’s so much more enjoyable to barbecue in the spring, when the sun is still up, the weather is warmer and we can sit outside and dine al fresco. To me, that is sheer Heaven.

6 Open Windows

About mid-December, I start to feel like my house and car are filled with stagnant air. I really can’t explain how much I love to open up the windows in the spring and let that fresh air come on in. Everything smells so crisp and just feels so much better.

7 The Ice Cream Man

Yes, I am still a big kid at heart and I still love ice cream as much as I did when I still was a kid. In the springtime, our ice cream man comes back on the scene, and hearing that little jolly jingle and seeing all of the kids run to the truck puts a smile on my face. Of course, I always grab a few bucks and line up with my husband and son to get my favorite treat, too.

Ah, the spring! There is no denying the sheer beauty, peacefulness, tranquility and happiness that this season imparts on me each and every year. Just writing this, I am yearning for the season even more! So, how about you? Why do you look forward to the spring?
