We are in the midst of the most laid-back and enjoyable seasons of the year - and there are plenty of things to do in summer to make it even more enjoyable. For me, there is nothing better than getting out of the house, kicking back and enjoying nature and all of its beauty in the summertime. What are some of my very favorite things to do in summer? Here is a look at how I enjoy celebrating this season.
For me, it only makes sense to start off a list of things to do in summer with swimming. Ever since I was a kid, I have been a fish. I can't get enough of the water. It soothes me, it puts me at ease and it is just so much fun! Whether I'm doing laps, flipping about like a child or just floating along, swimming is, hands-down, my favorite thing to do in the summer.
Next on my list of summer-related activities is eating ice cream. I have an absolute obsession with ice cream (who doesn't?) and while I do eat it all year long, it always tastes the best in the summer. When I hear the ice cream man coming down the street, I am more of a kid than my 3-year-old!
In case you haven't noticed, I am a HUGE kid at heart! In the summer, one of my favorite things to do is actually play with sidewalk chalk. I love heading out with my son and drawing pictures, reviewing numbers, shapes, colors and letters. The ground is our canvas and we have a blast!
Living on Long Island, I am lucky enough to be surrounded by the water on all sides. I can easily be at the sound, the ocean or the bay in a matter of 15 minutes, and I am truly blessed. I can set up a chair on the beach and just soak it up all day, every day, all season long, if I could.
There is just something so magical about fireworks. The loud boom, the brilliant colors; they are amazing! I scout out as many carnivals, fairs and other firework-hosting events as I can during the summer. Watching the shows really is a blast! (No pun intended!)
Another fantastic thing about living on Long Island is all of the wonderful farms we have. In the summer, these farms are at their peak and I just love it. Fresh corn, peaches, strawberries, blueberries, beets, cauliflower, broccoli... the list goes on and on. There is nothing better than farm grown, freshly picked produce. Ah, now I can't wait for dinner!
I don't really consider myself a fashion-forward type of gal. In fact, I am quite happy wearing a light and breezy skirt or a pair of cut-off shorts. That said, you can imagine that shoes aren't really a big deal to me. In fact, I much prefer being shoeless; there's just something about shoes that is so confining to me. Given that little fun fact about me, another one of my favorite things to do in the summer is to go shoeless, or at least wear flip flops! How liberating!
Summer is where it is at for me. It's freeing, it's relaxing, it's lazy and it's simple. What are some of your favorite things to do in the summer?
