January 9 ... on This Day ...

By Neecey

On this date in 2007, Apple unveiled the new Smartphone.

It was a touch-screen fusion of a classic mobile phone with a personal computer. The person that directed the development of the Smartphone was Steve Jobs, a man who later became famous outside of Apple for helping usher in a new era of touch-screen technology. It also started a form of technological cold war as the other phone companies rushed to catch up. Apple enjoyed between four to seven years on top in the Smartphone industry before other companies were able to catch up and create products of a similar quality. As a result, the Apple company went from an old company that was being pushed out slowly by Microsoft, to a company that dominated the mobile device industry.

These days the Apple company is neck-and-neck with Samsung based on sales and core consumers, however, in terms of moneymaking, Apple is still riding high.
