As a college student, you need healthy ways to deal with exam stress. One of the biggest things that will stress you out as a college student is likely to be exams. There’s no getting away from them when they come around during each year of your degree program, but thankfully, the good news is that there are several things that you can do to help yourself feel more confident and calm during the run-up to your exams and that starts with tips to avoid exam stress.
Whether you’re just starting your college degree or want to make sure that you have a better experience this time around for finals, we’ve put together some of our top tips to help you find healthy ways to deal with exam stress and do well.
1. Start Studying Early
When it comes to doing well on exams and avoiding stress, one of the biggest mistakes that you can make is to start studying too late. Of course, when you’re busy with other work and trying to earn some money, time can quickly creep up on you and before you know it, your exam is set for barely days away and you’re only just starting your revision. One of the best ways to deal with exam stress is to make a plan. Mark a date on your calendar or set a reminder on your smartphone to let you know when it’s time to start studying. This is a great way of ensuring that you don’t lose any precious time when it comes to getting yourself started. Once you start with plenty of time to spare, you’ll be able to take more in and be more confident and in control.
2. Stay Healthy
When you’re studying for your exams, it can be all too easy to turn to unhealthy habits, such as ordering take-out rather than eating healthy foods, or skipping the gym so that you can get more studying done instead. Or, you might find yourself going to bed in the early hours of the morning because you’ve been awake all night studying rather than getting some sleep. However, all this can quickly take its toll on your health and contribute to your stress levels, which could then result in your grades suffering. So, make sure that you put a lot of effort into looking after yourself during the exam season. Eat lots of healthy foods, drink plenty of water, and exercise regularly – your body and mind will thank you for it!
3. Try Relaxation Techniques
There’s a lot of work that goes into studying for an exam, so if you start to feel stressed out, it’s perfectly normal to seek ways to feel better. There are several things that you can do to help yourself relax, even if this means taking a short break away from your studies. If it helps you to get back in control then it will be worth the time. Find what helps you to relax. This could be breathing exercises, taking a hot bath or shower, or even spending time with friends.
