There are many great philanthropies to get involved with that you should consider, because being involved is a great way to make a difference in your community and help others. For every particular interest or cause, there are a number of non-profit organizations to volunteer with, it all depends on your passions. Here are some that I personally feel very strongly towards. Even if you don’t become involved with one of these specific organizations, get involved with a different one. It can be such a rewarding experience, it doesn't matter whether you're looking to actively volunteer or if you're interested in great philanthropies to donate to.

As a Penn State student, I can’t talk about philanthropies and not mention THON. THON is a year round effort to emotionally and financially support families who have a child with cancer. All of our efforts come to end at our 46-hour no sitting, no sleeping, dance marathon. I am proud to say that this past year, THON raised more than $10.6 million dollars, making it the largest student run philanthropy in the world. To learn more about THON and to donate money, go to thon.org.
