Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend and I'm here to share some facts about Mother's Day. It is a special day to celebrate and honor moms. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908. And that same year she organized the first official Mother’s Day celebration at a Methodist church in Grafton, West Virginia. Different versions of Mother’s Day are celebrated worldwide with a wide range of traditions depending on the country. No matter how old you are, your mom is an important person and a resource. Here are some interesting facts about Mother's Day.

1. Youngest Mother

The youngest mother on record delivered a baby boy by C-section in Lima, Peru in 1939. She was 5 years old and her family raised the baby as her brother.

2. Carnations

These flowers are very popular on Mother’s Day. Some people think they are made from the tears of Jesus’ mother when she wept at his feet the day he was crucified.

3. Mother’s Day Index

According to the Insure.com 2017 Mother’s Day Index, the various chores moms perform around the house would be worth $67,619 a year in the workforce. They work extra hard, but are not compensated for most of what they do.

4. Greeting Cards

The National Retail Federation estimates that United States consumers will spend $23.1 billion celebrating Mother’s Day this year. This includes eating out, cards, flowers and gifts.

5. Dining out

This holiday is the busiest day of the year for restaurants with about 62 percent of Americans dining out.
