What's the United State of Women? It's a measure of how we women are faring in our world, in six key areas, and not long ago, all my fave feminists met at a summit to chat about these things (and more) and just generally bask in their shared awesomeness. Let's review some of the things they talked about, shall we?
This pillar holds up the issues around paid leave and another biggie, equal pay. It's infuriating that we women make so much less than our male counterparts, even when we're better educated and have the same or more experience. Granted, the gap is narrowing, but not fast enough for my liking.
This is all about improving our access to the health care we need, and about tackling health issues unique to women.
It's a fact: we need more women and girls in the STEM fields, and we also need better early childhood options. And what about college for young women? That's covered too.
It's about time we start tackling the issue of violence against women in all its horrible forms, including campus sex assault. For starters, can we please stop using the phrase "non-consensual sex"? It's either sex (consensual) or rape.
Women entrepreneurs tend to have less access to the resources we need to get our ideas and innovations heard, and off the ground. This pillar is about changing that.
The numbers of women in CEO or political leadership positions are staggeringly, shockingly low: we make up only 1 in 4 senators and 1 in 5 members of Congress. We're 15% of the nation's executive officers, less than 10% of the top earners, and less than 5% of Fortune 500 CEOs. Why? And how can we change this?
