7 Eco-friendly Ways to Commute That You Should Try Today ...

Considering the state of our environment, it’s important that we all know eco-friendly ways to commute. Today we’ve become too dependent on our vehicles. Not only does using your car on a constant basis harm the health of the planet, but it also harms our health because we’re not only inhaling these harmful chemicals, we’re becoming less and less active as well. So for the betterment of our planet and ourselves, here are a few eco-friendly ways to commute.

1 Roller Blade

Using roller blades is one of the eco-friendly ways to commute. Talk about a leg and glute workout! I love roller blading because I just feel like I’m gliding right past everyone. It’s fun and convenient if your work provides you with individual lockers or a place to put coats, umbrellas, rain boots, etc...

Frequently asked questions

2 Bike

Biking is another great workout for the legs and glutes. Plus, biking as a way to commute is becoming such a common practice that many metropolitan cities are investing money into bike lanes for cyclists. In addition, many cities organize events where cyclists can bike along paths and forests together. Even if you only decide to bike halfway to your commute and take the bus the rest of the way, most buses have bike racks for cyclists to secure their bike while on the bus. The world is becoming very pro-bike!

3 Walk

The easiest and most affordable way to commute is to walk! People have been walking since the beginning of time, but nowadays many people have become lazy and insanely dependent on their cars... to the point where people try to find the parking spot closest to the entrance of a mall or the grocery store to avoid walking too much. Walking is a great way to get the blood circulating in your body and to get your joints moving, so motivate yourself and others to take a walk!

4 Public Transit

I’ll admit, I’d rather take a car than a bus any day. However, if there’s a bus route that runs along where I need to go, then why add more car emissions into the environment when I can just hop on a bus that will be going in the direction I need to go anyways? Plus, walking to the bus stop alone wakes me up and energizes me.

5 Carpool

If you absolutely cannot sit on the bus for whatever reason (you feel nauseous easily, your bus route takes too much time, etc...) then carpool. It’s not much different than taking the bus except the seats are more comfortable and there aren’t as many stops. But the most important thing is that the more people who carpool together, the fewer the number of cars will be on the road. Thus, less cars on the road equals less harm to the environment.

6 Train

If you live more than an hour away from your friends, family or your work, you might want to consider taking the train. It is pricey and not an everyday thing but it’s nice to take the train for a couple reasons. First, train companies are becoming more innovative with their technology in the quest to make trains eco-friendly. Second, taking the train helps to support the transportation sector and helps to support workers in the field.

7 Skateboard

No matter how old you are or who you are, as long as you know what you’re doing, skateboards can be your best friend. We’ve all tried skateboarding at least once and it’s really fun! I wouldn’t recommend skateboarding across the bridge or along a busy freeway, but if your pal lives a few blocks away from you then why not? It’s better than taking your car and is faster than walking!

If you do live far away from friends and family and commuting to work takes too long without a car, then definitely look at your alternatives like carpooling. There’s always a way around having to use a car most of the time. Challenge yourself and try to use your car less and less every week! Not only will you see a difference in your health but your wallet will be happy too. What other ways are there to commute without having to use a car?
