In this day and age, everyone spends most of their day behind a computer screen whether they are at work or at home, and I’ll be the first one to admit that there are some days where I only eat, work, sleep and study all in the company of my laptop. With that said, it is no surprise that our laptops can become a little filthy… So for when you are ready to take action, here are a few effective tips for cleaning your laptop!
To get rid of that oily layer of grease that comes from your fingers, poor a tiny bit of isopropyl alcohol to a cotton round and gently rub your keyboard in circular motion. You’ll be surprised just how much of a difference it makes! It might seem like your keyboard is just worn out from a lot of use, but underneath all that grease there is a perfectly new looking keyboard!
And for the hard-to-reach places, use cotton swabs absorbed with a little bit of a cleaning solution or water to rub off any hardened dirt or dust that has remained between the keys. With a little bit of pressure, all stains should be gone!
Instead of using harsh napkins or clothing to wipe off your screen, I’d recommend investing in a microfiber cloth that can do wonders without damaging your LCD screen. All you have to do is apply minimal pressure and rub away the stains, it is really that simple.
And if you feel like your screen needs a little bit more love, try using an equivalent mixture of vinegar and water. Vinegar is a great solution to use in order to wipe out mineral deposits, scum and tarnish but a diluted version might be a little safer for your laptop!
Let’s not forget the exterior of the laptop that is the most exposed to bacteria, dirt and dust. The best way to take care of the outside is to use gentle cleaning wipes that are damp enough to avoid leaking into ports and strong enough to rub away the stains.
To get out the dirt that you’ve been rubbing into your trackpad this whole time, grab a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, soak it and squeeze it hard enough to make it slightly damp. Then proceed to gently rub away the grease and stains to reveal a shiny and super clean trackpad!
And to clean out the side ports of dust, hair and pebbles, use a can of compressed air to blast everything out. Make sure to use the can in a series of bursts and use the nozzle to direct the flow of air. Most importantly, try to blast out of the computer and not in!
Throughout the cleaning process make sure your laptop is off and none of the cables are plugged in. Safety first ladies!
