What are your favourite ways to feel alive? That might sound like an odd question, but it’s one that’s worth pondering. Every once in a while, it’s a good idea to shake off everyday life in favour of something more dramatic – find your fire, your passion and your dreams, and really make yourself feel alive. That can be easier said than done, though, so next time you’re crawling the walls or feeling utterly fed up with life, remember these great ways to feel alive and try one of them out.
One of the best ways to feel alive is to get out of the concrete jungle and into the wild. Not only will you remember that you are a small part of a big living world, but you’ll clear your head and feel a lot brighter for it. For bonus points, try going backpacking and spending the night in a hotel or tent – without your mobile or social media.
Okay, so it’s not the most exciting, but exercising will definitely make you feel alive, and it doesn’t take very long. From jogging to spin classes, weigh lifting to yoga, there is a type of exercise that everyone could do. Get to work and you’ll soon feel your heart pumping, and your head clearing.
If you’re anything like me, the beach will always make you feel alive – and surprisingly at home. I don’t know if it’s the sun, the surf, the sand or the waves crashing against the floor…it just stimulates the senses and gets the blood pumping. Don’t think it’s all about sunbathing either. Volleyball and Frisbee are great fun on the beach, a jog is always fun, and who doesn’t want to try surfing?
Get up close and personal with the person you love. It might seem clichéd, but nothing will make you feel more alive than the very passion that creates life itself. Spend time cuddled up together, talking and listening and enjoying each other. Whatever you do, you are sure to feel alive.
When was the last time you truly danced like no-one was watching? There’s a reason that the cliché is so popular. It feels amazing. Once you let go of nervousness and embarrassment, your body will just come alive. Hit your favourite songs up loud, and lose yourself in the music. If you can’t be loud, put headphones in and find your vibe. Dance, and you’ll feel amazing.
Travel doesn’t need to be far or dangerous to be exciting. You really don’t have to leave everyone you know or love, or jet off to the other side of the world, to get that adventurous feeling. Just leaving your comfort zone and enjoying the challenge will be enough. Grab a map and find somewhere new to go. Plan a route, and explore. You’ll be glad you did.
Finally, one of the only ways to feel alive that never fails – swimming in the ocean. There is something amazing about giving in to the sheer power of so much water. It’ll put life into perspective, and make you feel amazing. If you aren’t a strong swimmer, try skiing or something equally pulse-quickening instead.
Which of these ways to feel alive do you love the most? Or do you do something else entirely? From attending rock concerts to playing sports, there are a lot of popular ways to feel alive that didn’t make the list – don’t forget to leave a comment and share yours!
