7 Common Problems You Face in Boarding School ...

The problems you face in boarding school can really make you a stronger person after going through them. But most of the time, all they really are is useless, or just training your perseverance and patience real hard. I mean like, some of the problems you face in boarding school are ridiculous and you just really don't need them. Sadly, they're inevitable.

1 Homesickness

This was the hardest thing I had to deal with the first time I went into boarding school. It took me a whole week to get over it and I felt really pathetic because everyone seemed so content and unbothered like I'm the only one facing this problem. Even if you don't feel it straight away, this will be one of the most difficult problems you face in boarding school. But on the bright side, it won't last very long and everything will be fine afterwards.

Homesickness is a common problem faced by many students when they go to boarding school for the first time. It is a feeling of sadness, loneliness, and longing for home and family. It can manifest in different ways, such as feeling anxious, irritable, or having difficulty sleeping or concentrating.

There are several things that can be done to help cope with homesickness. First, it is important to stay connected with family and friends back home through phone calls, emails, and video calls. Second, it is important to stay busy and engaged in activities at school. This can help to distract from the feelings of homesickness, and can also help to make new friends. Third, it is important to take care of oneself by eating healthy, getting enough sleep, and exercising. Lastly, it is important to talk to a trusted adult or counselor about feelings of homesickness.

It is important to remember that homesickness is normal and it will eventually pass. It can be difficult to adjust to a new environment, but with time, it is possible to make new friends and create a new home away from home.

Frequently asked questions

2 Annoying Roommates

This can be rather much of a pain when you don't get to choose your roommates. A friend of mine spent the least possible time she could in her room because she didn't like her roommate. Fortunately, I didn't have that problem. Most schools would likely let you choose your roommate after your first term so no worries.

***

Annoying roommates can be a major problem for students attending boarding school. This is because students often don't get to choose their roommates and can be stuck with someone who they don't get along with. This can make it difficult to relax in your own room and can cause stress and tension. Fortunately, most schools will allow students to choose their roommates after their first term.

When choosing a roommate, it's important to consider their interests, lifestyle, study habits, and sleeping patterns. These factors can be important in helping to create a harmonious living environment. It's also important to talk to your roommate about expectations and boundaries before moving in together. This can help to avoid potential conflicts.

In addition, it's important to respect each other's space and belongings. This means not taking or borrowing items without asking, and respecting each other's study and sleep times. It's also important to be open and honest with your roommate and to talk through any issues that arise.

Overall, annoying roommates can be a major problem for students attending boarding school. However, by taking the time to choose the right roommate and having open and honest conversations, it's possible to create a harmonious living environment.

3 Shower Times

Waiting for the shower is seriously the most annoying thing ever. Sometimes you just don't understand what people do in the showers that takes them so long. I literally waited for ages in my room with false hope every time I hear a door open.

Shower times in boarding schools can be a source of frustration for many students. With the limited number of showers available, it's often difficult to find a free one when you need it. This can lead to long wait times, especially if someone else is taking a long shower. It's not uncommon for students to wait in their rooms for what seems like an eternity, only to be disappointed when the shower is still occupied.

Shower times can be especially challenging for those living in dorms with communal showers. In these situations, there is no way to know when the shower will be available, as there is no way to reserve a shower in advance. This can lead to overcrowding in the bathrooms, as students rush to get a shower before someone else takes it.

In addition to the wait times, students also have to deal with the lack of privacy in communal showers. With multiple students showering at the same time, it can be difficult to feel comfortable and relaxed. This can be especially difficult for those who are self-conscious about their bodies.

4 Shower Conditions

So you finally get the shower. But then you find yourself grossed out by all the bits of hair lying around. Though sometimes, if you're lucky you'll have nice people before you who'll cleanup when they're done. And back in my old boarding school, not all the shower facilities were equally good so everyone's always fighting for the best one. You get people living on the second floor coming over to the first just to use the showers. We girls took our showers really seriously.

Shower conditions in boarding school can be a source of stress for many students. Not only do they have to worry about finding a clean and available shower, but they can also be grossed out by the amount of hair left behind by other students. To make matters worse, the quality of the showers can vary greatly between floors, leading to competition for the best showers. This can be especially true for female students, who take their showering routine more seriously than their male counterparts.

The lack of privacy can be another issue that students have to face in boarding school. Most showers are shared, meaning that students have to worry about the other person's hygiene habits and whether or not they will leave the shower clean. In addition, the lack of privacy can be a source of stress, as students feel like they can't relax and take their time in the shower.

Finally, the water temperature can be a problem in boarding school. Many students have complained of showers that are either too hot or too cold, making it difficult to enjoy a refreshing shower. This can be especially true in the winter months, when the temperature outside can make the water temperature inside the shower difficult to regulate.

5 Toilet

I had the most horrific experience in school one day when I found poo ON the toilet seat. And a few days after that, I found pee. You'd expect people to be toilet trained properly before their parents even allow them to leave home. This just goes to show you guys that these things do happen so be extra careful with hygiene.

Boarding school can be a great experience for students, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. Toilet hygiene is one of the most common issues faced in boarding school. Not only do students have to share bathrooms with dozens of other students, but they also have to worry about the cleanliness of the toilets.

In many cases, students may find poo or pee on the toilet seat, which can be extremely unhygienic and uncomfortable. This can lead to a variety of health issues, such as urinary tract infections, skin irritation, and even foodborne illnesses.

To avoid these problems, it is important to practice good hygiene. Students should always wash their hands before and after using the bathroom, and they should also make sure to flush the toilet after using it. Additionally, students should never use a toilet that has not been cleaned properly.

It is also important for students to be aware of their surroundings and to be respectful of others. If a student notices that someone else has not cleaned up after themselves, they should report it to the school authorities. This will help to keep the bathrooms clean and hygienic for everyone.

6 Laundry

Doing laundry itself is a pain. But doing laundry with only 4 washers and 4 dryers for 60 people, that's even worse. There are peak times to the laundry room, stuff goes missing, or you're done washing but all the dryers are occupied and you're worried that some klepto might steal your clothes if you hang them dry. Getting my laundry done smoothly has never failed to make me happy.

***

Boarding school life can be a challenge, and doing laundry is no exception. In many boarding schools, there are limited facilities, like only four washers and four dryers for up to 60 people. This can lead to long wait times, especially during peak times, and there is always the fear of someone stealing your clothes if you hang them to dry.

In addition to the problem of limited resources, there is the issue of missing clothes. Lost items are a common problem in shared laundry rooms, as it can be difficult to tell whose clothes are whose. It is important to keep track of your clothes and make sure they don’t get mixed up with someone else’s.

Finally, there is the struggle of getting the laundry done in a timely manner. With the limited resources, it can be difficult to find a time to do laundry that works for you. Even when you do get the chance, it can be hard to make sure all your clothes are done in one go.

Overall, doing laundry in a boarding school can be a challenge. But when you finally get it done, it can bring a great sense of relief and satisfaction.

7 Traveling

This problem especially applies if you're studying abroad. Another friend of mine missed her flight home because she thought it was the day after instead of that day. So she ended up paying a huge chunk of money for the next flight. Travel arrangements are always such a hassle. Always remember to double check!

Despite all that, boarding has been a great experience for me. But I have to say, it isn't for everyone. Feel free to comment below if you have any questions!

Some students may struggle with the adjustment of being away from home and dealing with the stress of travel. It’s important to be aware of the risks and the potential challenges that come along with traveling. Additionally, it’s important to be mindful of the cost associated with travel, as it can become quite expensive.
