I’m really struggling to keep cool at work this week. It’s just so hot, and even the thunder storms and heavy rain has made it more humid, rather than reducing the temperature. While leaning out of a window trying to breathe in fresh air or rubbing yourself with ice like you are filming a new Diet Coke ad might be tempting, it isn’t overly professional. Here are some great tips on how to keep cool at work without looking crazy…
When it’s really hot, you’d be surprised how effective a small fan can be. It’s one of the easiest ways to keep cool at work, too! I’ve got a small USB fan with an adjustable neck in my top drawer, and everyone rushes over for a waft of cool air when I’ve got it going. It’s super portable nature makes it really easy to use discreetly, too.
This is a great tip for using just before long meetings or periods in stuffy hot rooms. A Chillow is a 2cm thick pad of coolness that you fill with normal water. They cost around $40, and don’t need refrigerating. Fill it with water just before the meeting, and slip between the small of your back and the chair. It’ll cool you down instantly, and keep you comfortable regardless of how long the meeting drags on.
If you are really struggling with the feet, try a climate control foot rest. These cost around $100, but if you are regularly overheating or freezing your toes off, it’s a great investment! The airflow system provides either a cooling breeze or a warm air around the legs and feet, and the rest is shaped to relieve lower back pressure and give you a much better posture. See? Well worth the cost.
Refresh yourself and your make up instantly by using a cool facial spray. I’ve got a bottle of Evian facial spray at work, and boy is it good. It’s designed to be cooling without being too cold, and it’s perfect for rescuing that hot, stressed and bright red summer face. It even claims to increase facial hydration by 14%, and give your skin a plump, healthy look. All for $6!
The heat can be a real distraction, and make getting anything done hard. Take five minutes, and apply some Antistax cooling gel down your legs. It stimulates your legs, comforts and soothes, and it contains Flaven that keeps your legs in great condition. It’s guaranteed to cool you down and relax you, and it’s great for applying after spending lunch in the sun (or in the gym).
Cool yourself from the inside out by snacking on greek yoghurt. It’s much healthier than ice-cream, and has an 85% water content, which instantly cools you down. For an even bigger boost, add a watery fruit such as melon and make a healthy fruit salad at your desk. Greek yoghurt is high in protein, too, so it’s an excellent choice for weight loss or muscle repair.
Another great way to keep cool at work is by investing in a mist. These refreshing sprays are similar to facial sprays, but they can be used all over the body, and often carry a soothing scent. I love Thalgo mist, which is infused with sea water to revitalize cells and stimulate the skin, as well as giving off a lovely beachy scent. Just be careful not to get your paperwork too wet!
These are my tried-and-test ways to keep cool at work, and I swear by them! Just remember that if it gets too hot, or you start to feel faint or ill, take five minutes outside and go home if you don’t improve. Heat stroke isn’t fun, and can be fatal if you let it get too bad. Have you got a great way to keep cool at work? I’d love to try it!
