Natural Yoga Mat Cleaner

One of the great uses for vinegar that I learned about recently is to use it to make an all-natural cleaner for your yoga mat. Even if you don’t sweat profusely on your yoga mat, you still want to give it a good cleaning every now and then. To make this super easy and effective cleaner, combine a cup of vinegar, 3 cups of filtered water and a teaspoon of tea tree oil in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray down your yoga mat on one side and let it sit for a few minutes. Next, wipe it down with a damp cloth and repeat on the other side. If you’d like, you can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to add a nice fragrance to your DIY cleaner.

2

Natural Fabric Softener

Another use for vinegar that also helps you save money is to use it as a fabric softener. All you need to do is add about ¼ cup of vinegar to the fabric softener dispenser, to your Downey ball or directly in the load of laundry and your clothes will come out nice and soft. You can also add a drop or two of essential oil if you’d like to add a fragrance.

Skin Soother

The thought of applying vinegar to your skin might be off-putting, but it’s actually a very effective skin care tool. If you have a sunburn or insect bite, apply some vinegar to a cotton ball and apply it to the affected area to calm your skin. If you have itchy skin, add a couple of tablespoons to your bath water. If you up the amount of vinegar to a ½ cup, it’s been known to help remove dead skin.

4

Relieve Dandruff

If you’re tired of having a dry, itchy scalp, another one of the fab ways to use vinegar is to treat dandruff. Use some vinegar as a rinse and let it sit for about five minutes before you shampoo your hair. Keep this treatment up every time you wash your hair and you’ll start seeing less flakes. You can also apply vinegar after you shampoo since vinegar is known to restore the pH in your hair.

5

Treat Dry Feet

We can keep our dry feet under wraps during the winter, but with the spring season coming up, you’ll want to get your feet in better shape sooner than later. White vinegar can help get your feet ready for sandal season with a relaxing foot soak. Grab a large tub or bowl and fill it with warm water, a cup of vinegar and a drop of dishwashing liquid. Soak for about a half hour, wash and dry your feet and then apply a moisturizing lotion. Do this foot soak weekly and your feet will be spring-ready in no time!

Simply fill a bowl with white vinegar and let it sit overnight to get rid of common household odors, even cigarette smoke. You can also get rid of odors in your fridge by mixing equal parts vinegar and water and wiping down the interior and exterior, along with the bins.

Produce Wash

We often hear about all the dangerous pesticides sprayed on produce so it’s always a good idea to use a wash before eating it. Vegetable washes can get pretty costly, but you can easily and affordably make one with vinegar. All you need to do is mix 4 tablespoons of white vinegar with a gallon of water of cold water. Wash your fruits and veggies in this mixture to get rid of pesticides and dirt.

Vinegar has lots of great uses, whether it’s for cleaning, softening or soothing. So while apple cider vinegar has tons of great uses, don’t forget about white vinegar the next time you need a cheap and easy DIY product. Do you know of any other uses for white vinegar?
